Seen on Bob Withers timeline that he is on this programme on BBC 1 sometime between 1030 and 1130 Sunday 15th September. For those who don't know him he is a GC psychoanalyst

Thanks for the heads up

MrsSnippyPants · 15/09/2019 10:08

Just bumping this as a twenty minute warning!

Noconsent · 15/09/2019 10:41

Link?

Michelleoftheresistance · 15/09/2019 10:49

Its the BBC. What's the point?

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 15/09/2019 11:02

Ffs suicide again

Aspley · 15/09/2019 11:04

Brilliant, I just turned in. When discussing Sam Smith the non-binary person on the sofa misgendered Smith twice within a few sentences.
Genius.
Proof how nonsensical it is.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 15/09/2019 11:04

They’re all really struggling with the pronouns

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 15/09/2019 11:05

Crosspost aspley

MrsSnippyPants · 15/09/2019 11:10

The usual crap we have come to expect from the BBC. Their presenters need to be taught to challenge the suicide statistics and the ‘assigned at birth’ phrase that gets trotted out so often.

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 15/09/2019 11:13

Lol at the “girly nerd”, what on earth does that mean?? They hate labels but put them on everything!!! It appears that it just depends who assigns the label wether it’s a problem or not.

MrsSnippyPants · 15/09/2019 11:14

And another thing; yet again, four men, one woman, discussing an issue that mainly affects the rights of women and children.

Antibles · 15/09/2019 11:23

Frustrating. Angela Epstein was good. She almost got there but nobody nailed the key point that whatever your 'gender identity', you can't CHANGE SEX and the issue is not not that males shouldn't wear stereotypically feminine clothes but that they can't make a claim to being women and vice versa. She did reply to the idiotic comment of 'see you're labelling people as male and female' with 'no, biology is'.

Bob did the sensible science thing of sticking to his field which is the untested nature of children being medicalised but unfortunately therefore didn't nail that key point above, which is that medical treatment, as well as being physically damaging to a healthy body, won't change the kid's SEX.

It was very much a discussion about gender identity, the word trans (and the implications for women's rights) not mentioned at all.

As I say, Angela was 90% there with great comments on biology, but just needed to add that it's the trans claim to actually BEING the opposite sex (or ignoring sex and lionising 'gender') that is the massive problem.

A good comment from viewers was read out: a girl saying she wanted to be a boy throughout childhood (sounded like your typical tomboy basically) but was very glad she was left alone physically as she is perfectly happy with herself now.

Aspley · 15/09/2019 12:12

It was really short.
I find it odd when the BBC do that, bring in guests then spend only 10 minutes with them.
The longer people like the non-binary person get to speak the more they defeat their own arguments, we need to hear more from them.

endofthelinefinally · 15/09/2019 14:02

They ( BBC) do it because they are actually supporters of transactivism, but they make a token effort to appear unbiased.

ThePurported · 15/09/2019 14:21

What was the topic? 'Trans' covers so many areas.

There's the medicalisation of gender-nonconforming children, a pop star's desire to be referred to as 'they', and today some bloke's right to walk around a women's shelter with an erection because he has a 'female gender identity'.
The only thing these have in common is a lapse in critical thinking.
