Was excited my Dd chose this book. But 3 pages in I am annoyed. It’s supposed to help teenage girls but feels like it’s about men, again. AIBU?

Oh, fuck off, Laura Angry. Does she really not see how sexist this ideology is?

donquixotedelamancha · 07/09/2019 23:04

We could do with a word for people with vaginas who fancy other people with vaginas.

If there were some way of describing and grouping them, then we could perhaps do something about the challenges and prejudice they face- like we do with gay men.

Sadly they are ineffible, so that will never be.

littlbrowndog · 07/09/2019 23:06

What could we call them women. Thinking thinking.

Got it
Lesbians

donquixotedelamancha · 07/09/2019 23:14

Lesbians

That one's already taken. Throughout history it has always meant people with penises and long hair who fancy people with vaginas. To pretend otherwise is bigotry.

Next you'll be saying that feminism should consider biological based oppression, instead of hair length... LOL.

AnyOldPrion · 07/09/2019 23:43

Just why? Even teenage girls can’t have a book that centres them.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 08/09/2019 10:57

Why? Because Laura Bates couldn't give a flying one about teenage girls. Being 'woke' is better for her bank account.

(sorry, never could stand Laura Bates)

How can you write a book about sexism if you can’t segregate by sex for the purposes of the book?

Mouthfulofquiz · 08/09/2019 11:22

I was given this book (I know, I know, I’m 37!!) and I chucked it in the bin.

BadgertheBodger · 08/09/2019 11:24

How fucking dare she. Do fuck off Laura, you’re just reinforcing the message to those girls that their boundaries mean nothing. You’re part of the bloody problem. Angry

Michelleoftheresistance · 08/09/2019 11:54

Laura can take her One True Faith crap and piss off with it.

BarbaraStrozzi · 08/09/2019 12:20

Hoping all new print runs of "Everyday Sexism" will be renamed "Everyday Genders ."

'Cos I totes had to fight an equal pay claim at work because I was discriminated against on the basis of my long hair. And all those older women, strung out by the simultaneous demands of stroppy teens and dependent parents, while their husbands swan along, careers and hobbies untouched? All because the women wear nail varnish. Those women in India suffering pelvic infections and kidney stones because they don't drink enough because if they drank they wouldn't get through 10 hours in the fields without needing the toilet when there are no safe women's toilets? All down to the fact that they like a bit of glitter on their clothes.

BarbaraStrozzi · 08/09/2019 12:21

"Everyday Genderism"

Seconded! Also, Laura you are a fucking idiot.

StroppyWoman · 08/09/2019 17:48

Aw crap!
Read a blurb about this a couple of years back and bought it for my niece as an antidote to her stereotyping extended family.

MinesaBottle · 08/09/2019 21:36

‘People who are attracted to men’ are women? Homophobic much?! I imagine finding out they’re actually would come as something of a a shock to every gay man ever. Hmm

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 08/09/2019 22:18

Saw her speak and she was great until she mentioned how transwomen have been hassled in women’s toilets.

Gingerkittykat · 09/09/2019 02:49

Was Everyday Sexism full of this nonsense?

LiveInAHidingPlace · 09/09/2019 03:08

Why isn't her book called 'young people with vaginas whose gender identity matches their sex up' then?

PeriComoToes · 09/09/2019 04:14

Disgraceful. She's taken that bandwagon, jumped on it and shoved it up her arse.

Ker fucking ching

Barracker · 09/09/2019 08:42

Her original book should be renamed

Everyday Gender

Perhaps then she'd get it.

Perhaps if, every time someone reported an incidence of sexism, they declared "here is my example of gender that I experienced today" then she'd stop writing offensive poppycock about how some, most, of us vagina-people identify with what is literally everyday sexism.

Goosefoot · 09/09/2019 20:29

As far as I am concerned most of what I've seen her write is moronic. So no surprise here really.
