To me it seems pretty puerile, also very USA based. Is there anything similar UK based? Well apart from my Grin

Thanks! My application is under review 👍

Mermoose · 05/09/2019 13:09

I'm finding it a bit difficult to get used to, but Twitter was the same at first.
What I'd really like is a site that just lists the most recent developments regarding gender critical feminism - so, anything happening in law or politics, or if any prominent people have spoken up recently. Sometimes I really want to stop thinking about all this so much, but I still want to be able to check quickly what's happening.

SpamChaudFroid · 05/09/2019 13:14

Ah thanks Arnold, that's a shame. Did it become a target for MRAs?

MrsPellegrinoPetrichor · 05/09/2019 13:15

When I read my OH's nan's marriage certificate, her occupation was listed as 'spinster' she was 19. I was shooketh

When I got married(20 years ago) my dh was a 'bachelor' and I was a 'spinster' on the wedding band(bands?Confused)

I didn't like it at all but I didn't realise it had a positive meaning ,so thanks for that.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 05/09/2019 13:18

Did it become a target for MRAs?

I only know what I read on here but no, it was just not used enough for Peach to justify the cost of hosting it. Which is a shame for which I'm as much to blame as anyone. I signed up and posted for a bit then got distracted by life.

AnyOldPrion · 05/09/2019 13:19

I come here to check for recent developments Mermoose, and Spinster for more lighthearted and open chat. Spinster still seems a bit slow to me, after using Twitter. I had ten times the number of accounts to follow there though, so that’s probably why.

I also, now and then see Twitter names I used to follow, who seem to have posted a few times, then stopped. I hope they return and persevere as I don’t want to return to Twitter (risk of banning too high to invest more effort).

I think it could be a really useful, international space and perhaps be a good place for lesbians to hang out. Whether it will take off properly remains to be seen.

There's already quite a long thread about this, with some interesting comments about how to use.

www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3663641-Spinster-xyz?noti=1#89707236

My comments have been a bit negative, but that is because I really get fed up with all the women saying how great it is to be free of twitter censorship and then all they do is reproduce tweets from twitter.

And as someone pointed out to me it really dependes what time of day you log in. I was doing it late at night and I think got a lot of US chat. But that is one of its strengths. If you have the time log in as the antipodeses wake up , and so on.

Also you can search say for resisters.

I just dont have the time for the unstructured, but think it is really great that one woman(?) has put her money into this platform.

Bit like coming on a feminist forum to slag off feminists... that's pretty cringey too.

Don't know what site you've experienced @Almond99 but that isn't the Spinster I've been engaged in. Very informative, the discussion is in the main respectful and it's a chance for the gender critical to speak freely without fear of being forced to lie for the sake of feelz.

No wonder MRA's hate it. They can't control what we wicked women say over there.

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/09/2019 20:27

Who's this "we" of which you speak?

Feminism isn't the borg. Nor, I suspect from your contributions so far tonight, do you fall under any category of "we" that I'd also be in.

wizbitismynizbit · 05/09/2019 20:27

Women be nice. You have been told.

The most common topic in the conversations I’ve been having is women’s health, difficult periods and menopause mostly. I can see why men might find that dull or even cringey, particularly if they’re misogynistic or just childish.

Ooh that would be awesome Mermoose

CraftyWoman · 05/09/2019 21:00

JessicaWakefieldSV yup, same. Plus lots of people just feeling their way through a social media site that allows free speech and discussion about actual women's issues without having to describe parameters first. It's kind of how feminist Twitter was about 7 years ago.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 05/09/2019 21:28

and it's actually just flat-out weird to claim that, how funny.

Why? It’s what’s happening with the people I follow and who follow me. What’s weird is questioning why women would be talking about women’s health on a female focused website. I did also post a cat video today, and right now I’m discussing the brutal murder of a Māori girl in NZ by two men.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 05/09/2019 21:32

And every few days I make a post about an inspirational woman, beginning with Māori women. I’ve had great conversations with people about it too.

How weird to think women can’t talk about a wide variety of issues that concern them.

LesbianMeansSomething · 05/09/2019 21:51

Who should I be following on spinster?

JessicaWakefieldSV · 05/09/2019 22:00

Depends what you’re interested in... the usual women we know are there. This one is good for menopause @AriadneOnNaxos@spinster.xyz

BarbaraStrozzi · 05/09/2019 22:24

The Bewilderness is on there, which is great because I really miss her contributions here.

Voice0fReason · 05/09/2019 22:32

I love Spinster. It's a fantastic alternative to Twitter with thoughtful, intelligent discussions and freedom to speak clearly.
