Kath Murray, Lucy Blackburn and Lisa MacKenzie are Murray Blackburn Mackenzie ....Scottish policy collective

mbmpolicy - Kathmurray1 LucyHunterB lnmackenzie1 on Twitter

They have been doing brilliant work shining a light on the Scottish Government's sex and gender self-identification policy proposals and the census.

They have put themselves out there doing media appearances, publishing analysis and making representations to parliament, and now they are asking for some support.

So if you you've got to love to spare this month share it with Kath, Lucy and Lisa. Their work is really important!

The Scottish Government is planning to issue a draft GRA reform bill for consultation during the session that started yesterday - this means the draft will probably come out at the end of this year.

Murray Blackburn McKenzie are one of the very impressive small groups of Scottish women researching, analysing and critiquing this area, and they are crowdfunding to allow them to properly devote time to their work on that draft. As they point out, whatever goes on in Scotland is likely to have considerable importance for any similar proposals brought by the Westminster government too.

There's a link in this tweet to a page that describes what they do; what they have already achieved, in less than a year; what they would like to be able to do around analysing and critiquing and monitoring the Scottish government on this, and looking further ahead too.

Much respect and admiration for their work. Thanks for sharing this info. I'll help support them in whatever way I can.

LangCleg · 04/09/2019 08:59

These women do wonderful work and I will (have) support in any way I can. Have been more explicit over on Spinster!

AnyOldPrion · 04/09/2019 09:03

Wow Eresh. The gloves are off in that one and they’re talking about people’s “lived sex”.

The only sex you can live with is the sex you are. Get over it.

Cuntysnark · 04/09/2019 10:34

A little bit of support deposited.

Followed them and donated.

Here is their website murrayblackburnmackenzie.org/

They are the ones who wrote the excellent paper on policy capture "Losing sight of women's rights: the unregulated introduction of gender self-identification as a case study of policy capture in Scotland"

4465 is an interesting number

Ereshkigal · 04/09/2019 14:52

I will be looking at those numbers later this month. This is extremely important work.

MurrayBlackburnMackenzie · 04/09/2019 15:50

Thank you so much for this post, Maya!

Having built up a body of knowledge, we are keen to keep doing this work and developing our 'policy capture' thesis.

Once we have a little more capacity, we hope we might be able to set up a regular e-newsletter, so anyone with an interest in our work can be kept up to date with what we're doing.

In the meantime, most of the material we've generated is on our website.

We welcome feedback, so please do get in touch!

TRA definition of a human right: “the right to lie on official forms and expect the government affirm that lie as the truth”.

Popchyk · 04/09/2019 17:20

Seems to have gone well.

Very important work being done - and lots of people keen to support it.
