Absolutely horrified at this story:

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7413803/Male-nurse-58-treated-patients-vagina-like-puppet-staff-KEEPS-hospital-job.html

Horrified, first that he did it. Then that he appears to have used his sexual orientation to absolve himself of wrong-doing. Third, that his superiors seem to think he is fit to carry on working with patients. How the fuck has he not been struck off?

Fuck this shit. I’m furious. I don’t care if you’re gay, wearing lipstick with your beard, or whatever new form of male “oppression” these misogynists are going to come up with next. I don’t want a single unknown MALE near me when I’m sick, vulnerable, naked, etc. Even being accompanied by other professionals doesn’t seem to stop their gross entitlement, hatred for women, and disrespect for our bodies.

This is precisely the reason why I wouldn't under ANY circumstances give consent for a procedure or examination by a male HCP.

willloman · 31/08/2019 21:15

Cannot understand why this person is not fired. Revolting.

bd67th · 31/08/2019 21:20

Gay men are often horrifically misogynist.

Some Gay men I’ve come across are hideous towards woman
I wonder if it’s they are jealous ?

Propertyfaux · 31/08/2019 21:57

Having a disabled child who will eventually be in residential care provider this petrifies me. Not only a women treated nothing more than a slab of meat but a vulnerable one at that.

Spanckd · 31/08/2019 21:59

This is terrifying. Poor woman.

MrsNonsense · 31/08/2019 22:06

That's really scary. What was his actual conviction for? I thought people with certain convictions can't work with vulnerable people? And what kind of conviction could he really get from that? I'm assuming something that shows he mistreated somebody vulnerable or that he used his position to do something. It's just weird.
How is this even allowed?

And under supervision is supposed to solve this, after he felt OK with doing it in front of people in the first place?
This is ridiculous.

It says the woman was vulnerable, lacked mental capacity. I really doubt he would have done something like that to somebody else who seemed "stronger" to him.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 31/08/2019 22:10

No. Not having this. I don't give a flying fuck what he says his sexuality is. Abhorrent, disgusting, inexcusable. Shouldn't be anywhere near patients - surely this merits the sex offender's register?

To whom do we write? Will it make a difference?

Aridane · 31/08/2019 22:14

Appalling case though not 'with impunity'.

Man was prosecuted and has criminal conviction.

Lost previous job.

Got current job without disclosing criminal conviction and circumstances of leaving previous job.

N,J proceedings underway to assess fitness to practise. Which hopefully leads to a permanent bar to this criminal's re-employment

Voice0fReason · 31/08/2019 22:19

It seems very obvious that he lacks the basic respect required to do the job. He should be sacked. Despicable behaviour.

LatteLove · 31/08/2019 22:20

Wtf?!

KUGA · 31/08/2019 22:23

Feel to sick comment.
shoot the bastard.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2019 22:28

What makes it worse is that he had no insight into why what he'd done was so terrible. I can't believe he was not struck off.

Toddlerteaplease · 31/08/2019 22:29

I think the hospital where he works now did know about it.

SirVixofVixHall · 31/08/2019 22:33

That has really upset me. My Mum is dead, but she had periods in hospital when she was confused, frail, vulnerable.
I feel a surge of absolute rage on behalf of the woman he did this too. Totally inhuman. Just disgusting. I cannot belief he wasn’t sacked !

MrsNonsense · 31/08/2019 22:34

Yes, I read they knew about it. So don't understand why they employed him?
I don't understand how it's allowed. What is the point of DBS checks if they'll just say "ah, you've got this conviction for doing something to a vulnerable person, but I'm sure you're fine really, you seem OK, have a job"
Isn't the whole point of DBS checks to keep people like this away from certain jobs?

Popchyk · 31/08/2019 22:34

He's already been cleared by the Nursing and Midwifery Council to continue working.

www.nmc.org.uk/globalassets/sitedocuments/ftpoutcomes/2019/august-2019/reasons-kennedy-ftpcio-64033-20190823.pdf

He's still allowed to work at the Royal Gwent, with certain conditions, for the next 18 months. Pending the Fitness to Practice hearing.

"At any time that you are employed or otherwise providing nursing services, you must place yourself and remain under the supervision of a workplace line manager, mentor or supervisor nominated by your employer. Such supervision must consist of working at all times on the same shift as, but not necessarily under the direct observation of, a registered nurse who is physically present in or on the same ward, unit, floor or home that you are working in or on".

So he's allowed to be alone with patients provided that there is another nurse on the same floor or ward, with this other nurse presumably busy with other patients.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 31/08/2019 22:47

I'm sure everyone in the Royal Gwent hospital and all their relatives and friends and colleagues will be very reassured that there will be another nurse on the same floor/ward as this man. Untenable. It's tacitly admitting he shouldn't be alone with patients, yet ... allowing him to be left alone with patients. Fucking hell.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 31/08/2019 23:04

'When delivering routine personal care of an intimate personal nature you must be chaperoned.'

He is still allowed to carry out intimate personal care.

MrsNotNice · 31/08/2019 23:22

Not trying to be funny but I have witnessed a very similar incident to a vulnerable lady, but a bit less revoltingly intimate by a junior doctor while I was chaperoning as a work experience student.

I was very intimidated by the event but didn’t have the courage to report and I was very young.

It still sits on my conscience and often wonder if i would be believed if I now found him and reported him.

But I never allow a male to examine me ever since. He was hideously unprofessional and took everything as a joke. She was unconscious and I still carry the guilt of being the mute chaperone

Fraggling · 31/08/2019 23:48

I think, in general, men are trained by society and media to see womens bodies as a selection of parts, not a person.

After all the stuff with male charity workers sexually exploiting the people they were supposed to be looking after ( but generally the female ones) , i think there is a solid argument for women only. Woman do not do this xhit7 at anywhere the same rate. Recent case woman in a coma usa gave birth ffs.

Why the fuck is he still employed?
That's properly grotesque.

Redshoeblueshoe · 31/08/2019 23:58

Well the message is clear on this Shock
Absolutely not fucking surprised

Fraggling · 01/09/2019 00:06

The fact that this sort of thing happens and the men who do it are still employed is a demonstration that we live in a male dominated society..
