The Programme freedomprogramme.co.uk/ is a brilliant organisation that supports abused women. They're running a crowdfunder. It would be against MN rules for me to include the link here but I'm happy to share it with anyone who PMs me.

Can someone please DM me a direct link because I can't find a donate link on their website and the only crowdfunder for them that I managed to find closed in 2017.

EmpressLesbianInChair · 29/08/2019 20:26

I’ll DM you now squirrel. It’s not linked to from their site.

Thanks. Is there any where we can post the link on mumsnet, since it is so hard to find? Somewhere like the notice board at the end of that dark corridor in the dank basement where all the petitions get hidden?

I think that helping women get injunctions against their abusers even when they are too afraid to go to the police is a very worthwhile cause. It's such a shame that law enforcement is designed to protect males at the expense of females, but that's what 8000 years of patriarchy does to social norms.

This is what the crowdfunder says they are going to do with the money.

The service specifically assists women in obtaining a non-molestation order anywhere in the country even if they have not reported to the police or been referred to the MARAC service.

We help "hidden victims" by providing advice and help in obtaining an injunction against the men threatening their lives even if they do not feel confident reporting to the police.

Over the last month we have helped 8 women to obtain an injunction. There is a clear need. We want to do this more often.

We urgently need a helpline and the ability to fund the wages of an "IDVA/IDSA" ... this is an independent and dedicated woman who will work closely with the most at risk victims of domestic and/or sexual abuse. We need the funds to provide a helpline for women to access the help they need to obtain a non-molestation order. If this injunction is then breached - the police have the power to immediately arrest the woman's abuser.

The woman does not have to visit the police. She does not have to prove her need. She will be believed and she will be helped. She has a chance.

Meanwhile I'm off to share the direct link on Spinster, twitter and facebook.

Thanks Squirrel. I've shared the direct link everywhere I can but this seemed like the safest way to do it on MN.

In case anyone else is a bit concerned that the gofundme.com page doesn't mention the Freedom Programme and the Freedom Programme website has no mention of the gofundme campaign, I just e-mailed the Freedom Programme to check and got the following reassuring reply.

"Yes we have just opened this service in addition to the freedom programme. We avoided putting a link on the Freedom website as we are trying to set up this as the advice and support line, leaving the Freedom programme free to focus on the groups and training. Hope that makes sense."

So you can donate with confidence that the money will be well spent. If you are having trouble finding the page try putting "gofundme" and
"Get Abused Women Help Before They Are In Crisis" into google.

It's a real shame that women who have already paid taxes are forced to dig into their reserves to fund projects that support women in desperate need. In countries where women and their safety has a higher priority these initiatives are funded by the state via the tax system.

Sadly it seems this is just another aspect of the injustice that disproportionately effects females in a world designed and run by males. Plenty of dosh when massive sports events need policing, bugger all resources when abused women phone and beg for protection from abusive partners and stalkers.

I'll vouch completely for the End Abuse crowdfunder. It is a vital service they are already providing
