Manchester Pride Statement - Is it calling the of lesbians & de transitioners abhorrent?

Manchester Pride issued this statement yesterday. twitter.com/manchesterpride/status/1166404225716379649?s=21

Appears to call the views of lesbians and those brave, young de transitioners abhorrent. I find the authoritarian condemnation of these women cruel and painful. twitter.com/charlie_sci/status/1165369008801091589?s=21

Pride seems to imply Manchester lgbt community will offer support and help to anyone who is questioning their gender (whatever that means) but fuck anyone who wants out.

Par for the course.

Last year they were on about saggy old tits. Angry

wizbitismynizbit · 28/08/2019 10:54

I took it that they were calling these brave women abhorrent.

Misogynistic gits.

Redshoeblueshoe · 28/08/2019 10:57

I might have to go Stickering in the gay village, and the town hall

testing987654321 · 28/08/2019 11:04

Quite pleasingly, their apology isn't good enough for the TRAs, who are annoyed that the women weren't swiftly removed and didn't have the required wristbands on so shouldn't have been able to get anywhere near the front of the parade.

It's almost as though everyone should ask nicely if they are allowed to protest before they do it. That's exactly how protests work.

NightFever · 28/08/2019 11:06

Whilst we are talking about the Town Hall...it looks like very expensive renovations are installing gender neutral toilets, which is totally fine but will they be in addition to bogs for us mere women?

twitter.com/jonconnorlyons/status/1166379005106372608?s=21

Jon has made some very dubious comments about women in the past. He's a big fan of using the TERF slur. Last year he blocked many women who asked him not to. Never a good look for elected officials to block the public for dissenting views. Also condemned those brave de transitioners the other day.

I must be getting old that councillor looks about 12

2BthatUnnoticed · 28/08/2019 11:31

The entitlement in those comments Confused Thousands of people marched. But 14 peacefully protesting women (lesbians and one bi woman) are so scary, they need to be silenced and removed?

How bizarre, that Pride defends hetero over homosexuality.

Justhadathought · 28/08/2019 11:57

I must be getting old that councillor looks about 12

We have a similarly young ( & gay) male councillor in Liverpool.
It signals woke'ness and a supposed reflection and representation of the electorate - but personally feel that councillors should be older - and with more life experience. That was traditionally the way. You became a councillor in later years as a way of giving something back to the community, and it was purely a P/T role, alongside your job or primary occupation. Lots of councillors now rely on their stipend as their sole income, and don't have any other social roles

ThePurported · 28/08/2019 11:57

Manchester Pride Limited represents Manchester Pride Limited.
It's a charity built around an annual event, it doesn't represent the Manchester lgbt community.
They focus on the trans and fetish communities because that's where the money is.

Last year they were on about saggy old tits.
Yeah. Dragging women out by their saggy tits.

SarahProblem · 28/08/2019 12:58

I think you're bang on the money, when you mention money but I was at Pride and it was primarily focused on being a music event rather than a 'trans/fetishist event' as you say. It was thoroughly colonised by heterosexual people being frankly horrendous, straight women grabbing guys by the genitals, straight couples strong-arming LGBT+ people out of the way. There were however, pockets of really supportive/community-led activities.

MagneticSingularity · 28/08/2019 13:35

Oh do let this guy continue to talk, it’s hilarious that he’s apologizing and none of the thousands of ‘on-message’ marchers is buying his apology for exposing them to the terrifying presence of the 14 gc protesters. He might have been wiser to just say nothing and hope it would go away.

That’s some mega spotlight-stealing right there on the part of those women! I’m massively impressed all over again by their bravery.

Justhadathought · 28/08/2019 16:56

This was one of the banners that the women carried:

Manchester Pride Statement - Is it calling the of lesbians & de transitioners abhorrent?
Justhadathought · 28/08/2019 16:59

I've just come across a discussion - mainly involving gay men - about Manchester Pride this year - where they referred to the women as TERFs - saying how glad they were that they got booed. Absolutely no awareness or sympathy at all for what the women were protesting.
I would say something, and have done in the past - but just haven't got the stomach for another onslaught just now.

TheBigBallOfOil · 28/08/2019 17:00

So questioning your gender - good.
Questioning your questioning of your gender - evil, die in a fire etc.
Am I getting the hang of this? These people are so mad, I can’t tell what they’re about

Justhadathought · 28/08/2019 17:03

So questioning your gender - good

What does that even mean, though? Gender is not a real thing, in the way that sex or race is. And gender is not a fixed state either - it is merely a changing/flexible set of social proscriptions about what is or is not appropriate for your sex.

Questioning one's gender is just a nonsensical proposition. Questioning gender itself - yes, that would make more sense.

NeverSayFreelance · 28/08/2019 17:16

Pride is for LGBT people. T is for trans. You can't go to Pride and insult trans people and expect to be accepted.

ThePankhurstConnection · 28/08/2019 17:31

Pride is for LGBT people. T is for trans. You can't go to Pride and insult trans people and expect to be accepted.

L is for lesbian but apparently you can go there call them names and issue death threats to them Hmm

TheBigBallOfOil · 28/08/2019 17:58

It doesn’t insult trans people to say that lesbians are females who are sane sex attracted.
I know some say it does. But that is because they have gone mad. HTH

NightFever · 28/08/2019 18:14

The bandwidth of what is insulting is getting ever wider.

Why is it insulting for de transitioners to draw attention to their experiences?

Can the lgbt community and organisations only throw their support towards people who are transitioning?

OP posts:
wizbitismynizbit · 28/08/2019 18:22

So factually correct statements are insulting. Calling women insulting slurs and booing them not.

Right.

You know what? As Magdalen Berns said - I'd rather be rude than a liar.

MrGHardy · 28/08/2019 18:47

I literally said "holy f..." when I read Charlie's tweet.

Justhadathought · 28/08/2019 18:53

Pride is for LGBT people. T is for trans. You can't go to Pride and insult trans people and expect to be accepted

Did you even hear or read what the protestors had to say? Or, more likely, is your response simply tribalistic one.

Educate yourself on the very real issues and then come back and discuss.

CraftyWoman · 28/08/2019 19:02

Pride is for LGBT people. T is for trans. You can't go to Pride and insult trans people and expect to be accepted.

Except nobody fucking insulted trans people, maybe, if you're going to comment on a post, it might be an idea to have a clue what you're talking about first, eh? Might make you look less like an enormous bellend.

Rubidium · 28/08/2019 19:59

Another example of the authoritarianism of Manchester Pride:
joelgoodman.net/2019/08/27/manchester-pride-pr-protest-terf-ariana-grande/

Preventing a gay, HIV positive press photographer from attending the HIV Candlelit Vigil memorial because they didn't like the way he had been doing his job.

TheBigBallOfOil · 28/08/2019 20:09

Like these people always do, I suspect freelance has deposited his/her smelly little turd, then fucked off.
People disagreeing with you is violence, you know.
