Liverpool ReSisters - one year on

We women here in Liverpool realised that it's been a year since #stickerwoman - a moment that went viral and set Twitter alight with impotent rage.

It also set into motion several events in our fair city that showed up the Mayor and all its Cllrs for the misogynists and cowards they really are.

The shameful attempts to silence our spokeswoman in the Council chambers created the opposite intended effect, and stirred women up and down the country into actions of their own, organising grass-roots ReSisters groups everywhere.

We are proud of the ripples created by our sticker, but we are more proud to be part of a growing movement of women who say NO to losing our rights, NO to misogyny, NO to abusive men.

You have done amazing work ReSisters

1984isHappeningNow · 27/08/2019 21:50

That was a fabulous campaign.

For me it helped crystallize the random strands of nonsense by prompting me to research more, rather than just lurking on Mumsnet. Misogyny Joe scored an incredible own goal jumping on the woke band wagon as that made me scream with frustration! Completely peaked!

nonsenceagain · 27/08/2019 21:52

✊🏼 You are sheroic!

LangCleg · 27/08/2019 21:59

We are all #stickerwoman.

Thank you for everything, you wonderful women.

stealthsquirrelnutkin · 27/08/2019 22:13

Happy first birthday Liverpool ReSisters. You have done sterling work.

You turned the public eye onto what was being pushed through behind the scenes, and shone a spotlight on the misogyny of the mayor and council.

I wonder how many locals were bemused by those "women don't have penises stickers", intrigued enough to investigate, and discovered to their utter dismay and incredulity how far the batshittery had already gone, and that it was being pushed into law, on the sly, under the cover of #nodebate.

Women are waking up and becoming a force to be reckoned with. Grass roots groups have formed all across the UK, consciousnesses are being raised. No debate has failed.

sueanddumplings · 27/08/2019 23:23

Were the Resisters the group that took a picture by a ferry queue to try and make their turnout look more impressive?

Wurzelsnewhead · 27/08/2019 23:29

Interesting podcast discussion here about the founding of the resister network including the low down on their clash with Liverpool finest Joe "nonce" Anderson.

It was me that took the photos of the ferry 'stunt'. And I had no such intention to deceive or bolster anything. I was just charged with taking the photos. It was to coincide with the Labour party conference which was being held in the city at the time - and was purely designed to achieve publicity and awareness of the issue.

I was also in the council chamber when councillor Anne O''Byrne performed her undemocratic flounce out - to virtue signal - in refusing to even listen to an invited speaker. One of her constituents. She is happy to use the woman and working class card when it suits her personal ambition though. Shame on her!

Joe Anderson behaved as Joe anderson does -which is like a thuggish bully. I'm sure his heart is in the right place deep down - but he continually shoots his mouth off without educating himself on issues first.

gedsxppl · 28/08/2019 11:58

How can we join the ReSisters movement? I'd like to be involved. I'm not currently living in the U.K. but I will be moving back home in a few months and want to do more to help women!

drspouse · 28/08/2019 12:21

There are local groups all round the British Isles, if you are on FB I think there is a public FB page listing them.

LiverpoolReSisters · 29/08/2019 23:10

gedsxppl shoot a DM to the ReSisters United FB / twitter pages. We have many women involved behind the scenes linking other women together. 'Tis a beautiful thing. :)
