9 women 3 men on the jury; America where cult of personality outweighs everything 😡

Propertyfaux · 27/08/2019 20:08

One day at a time, be kind to yourself.

Propertyfaux · 27/08/2019 20:09

Sorry my last post was to rainbow

StockTakeFucks · 27/08/2019 20:10

Book it's not any better in the UK either.

picklemepopcorn · 27/08/2019 20:18

Maybe that video will raise awareness that we live in a rape culture. That nothing a woman does or says is enough to prevent a man having sex with her, or hold him accountable for rape.

Rainbownelly1974 · 27/08/2019 21:05

@picklemepopcorn I think that statement has so much truth in it unfortunately

StockTakeFucks · 27/08/2019 21:18

Nah,that doesn't happen here.

Rape culture is somewhere else and it happens to other people.

Not in the civilised west that doesn't even need feminism anymore and everything is more equal than the equal sign.

Not here. Never here.

Hmm

Oh, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears
Bury the rag deep in your face
For now's the time for your tears

"9 women 3 men on the jury; America where cult of personality outweighs everything 😡"

Yes - sports stars can literally get away with rape (and murder -OJ Simpson). Even clear video and eyewitness testimony isn't enough.

When my friend was going through her rape trial, she was told that women on a jury are more likely to acquit than men (research suggests this).

I find this inexplicable - but some sort of internalised misogyny/victim blaming seems at work here. The "magical thinking" that some women express, which means if it's the woman's own fault she was raped, then it won't happen to her.

Detroitinnineteensixtyeight · 27/08/2019 21:35

Personality and money rule.

I totally agree with you, Zebra.

StockTakeFucks · 27/08/2019 22:12

Or like in my friend's case he's a family man now and they can't take a father away from a young baby.

Detroitinnineteensixtyeight · 27/08/2019 22:23

I believe it, Zebra.

People can change, don't be too harsh on them. I've heard it too.

I'm very sorry for your friend. You would think DHS would want a convicted rapist away from a child. It's insane

Voice0fReason · 27/08/2019 23:45

That is horrific. I cannot believe that the jury bought his story.

failingatlife · 28/08/2019 05:09

rainbow so sorry for all that has happened to you. Your daughters will come back to you, hopefully sooner rather than later. Stay strong Flowers

That chilled me to the bone. It's on camera. There's a witness. The witness called the police while this was happening. It looks like there might be more than one witness (the door of the big white car opens and closes while he's wrestling that poor woman). There is no way anyone could watch that and genuinely believe that woman consented to sex Sad

Rainbow I'm sorry for what your ex has put you through Flowers Do you have friends and family to support you IRL?

WhatWhyWhen sorry for what you've been through too but I'm glad you didn't waste anymore of your time on the victim-blaming idiot Flowers

MangoesAreMyFavourite · 28/08/2019 09:08

So in the eyes of the jury, is this video showing what consent looks like?

Propertyfaux · 28/08/2019 09:19

All the accused has to do is provide an alternative explanation and discredit the accused. His explanation only has to have the smallest plausibility and it’s enough. I understand his was he was actually protecting her!

HauntedPinecone · 28/08/2019 09:48

I would want to know more about the context before passing judgment. If they went to the hotel at 7pm and the video was at 2am for example? What time did the rape occur and did they get drunk after or beforehand

Sorry, what?

emerencemaybehopeful · 28/08/2019 10:00

WSS ^^

So I'm not allowed to express my utter soul-rotting despair at what men get away with doing to women either? Hmm Shock Confused Angry

zebrasdontwearbras · 28/08/2019 21:23

bd67th - I didn't see you original post that was deleted, but, clearly not. Thanks

Who is here reporting these posts of women expressing their anger at male violence online?? Shame on you, whoever you are Biscuit

Voice0fReason · 29/08/2019 21:43

I wonder how the jury could ever conclude he was innocent, then I read comments like this. I cannot even begin to fathom your thought process. How do those questions affect your opinion? What possible context could provide a reasonable explanation for that video?

Raffles1981 · 29/08/2019 21:50

This is why I didn't report my rapist. What is the point? Even with video/witness evidence, even then, a woman is not believed.

2BthatUnnoticed · 30/08/2019 11:50

@bd67th you are not alone on how you feel - this story made me feel despair too.

Rainbows and Raffles sorry for what you’ve been through - life truly isn’t fair sometimes.

The actions on that video were most definitely not to “protect her*, she is clearly terrified. His actions were those of a callous predator.

There were two people watching... why didn’t they yell or honk the horn - cause a diversion? Although, he alone is responsible for what he did and one did call the police.

To the brave survivor, if you ever happen to read this: your courage in surviving this crime, and then fighting for justice, is incredible and I salute you. Women everywhere believe you and support you💚💜
