Evelyn Beatriz Hernandez, a rape victim who gave birth to a stillborn baby, and was then sentenced to 30 years' imprisonment for murder, has now been acquitted in a retrial.

It's not much. The original charge and conviction was horrifying. But it's something.

Wonderful news.

And actually it's quite big news isn't it? Huge for her and a precedent for other women in El Salvador.

It is great news. Ffs being jailed for having a stillbirth

What sort of world is this for women

That’s fantastic news, but I’m sure it will have had a massively detrimental affect on her mental health.

RoyalCorgi · 20/08/2019 09:54

In a way, yes, it is big news. But at the same time it feels extremely depressing to be expected to feel pleased that a woman no longer has to spend 30 years in prison for the "crime" of having been raped and given birth to a stillborn baby.

RoyalCorgi Completely agree, both good news and profoundly depressing that it could even happen

That’s what I’m wondering too. Wonderful news that Evelyn has finally been cleared - but WTF? It breaks my heart that women are being treated like this.
