Outrageous things that “transphobes” say

AgileLass · 19/08/2019 09:48

Apparently transphobes believe women over 6ft shouldn’t be allowed compete in women’s sports.

twitter.com/transactualuk/status/1163364137402957824?s=21

No actual receipts or evidence of anyone having said this, of course.

I’ve just seen this retweeted by a number of academics Hmm

It seems the new strategy is to make up outrageous things, attribute them to gc feminists as a means of discrediting the whole argument.

How can we counter this? (And what the fuck is wrong with these idiotic academics, that wouldn’t pass muster in a first year essay, for heavens sake)

OP posts:
2BthatUnnoticed · 19/08/2019 10:05

First, thinking bio sex is relevant to sporting performance does not mean you hate trans people! Do not adopt their language OP Smile

Secondly, I highly doubt anyone said that. It’s not unusual for elite female athletes to be six foot - it’s a ridiculous statement.

How to counter it: where is the retweet or screenshot? No receipts = didn’t happen.

OldCrone · 19/08/2019 10:08

Are they referring to this?

www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7369619/Kent-transgender-cricketer-reignites-row-allowed-play-womens-sports.html

This person shouldn't be on a woman's team. Not because they are over 6ft but because they are male.

NotTerfNorCis · 19/08/2019 10:17

When someone's whole argument depends on lies, they have no argument.

Unfortunately lies grab attention, and that is working for the TRAs. They learnt long ago that truth is irrelevant. In fact a basic lie - that people can change sex - sits at the heart of their ideology.

andyoldlabour · 19/08/2019 10:22

"This person shouldn't be on a woman's team. Not because they are over 6ft but because they are male."

Exactly, but the mentality of the TRA's is to deflect, sidestep and use extreme obfuscation.
The Kent cricketer is a 6' 4" tall male bodied person playing in a women's county cricket team.

OldCrone · 19/08/2019 10:28

The Kent cricketer is a 6' 4" tall male bodied person playing in a women's county cricket team.

And the objection to them being there would be the same if they were 5'4".

Males shouldn't play in women's sporting events. No matter how tall/short, strong/weak, fast/slow they are. They don't belong there because they are male.

Datun · 19/08/2019 10:30

When someone's whole argument depends on lies, they have no argument.

Exactly. Not to mention how unintelligent it makes them look. Nonsense arguments make you look nonsensical.

FamilyOfAliens · 19/08/2019 10:52

It’s probably been said before but wouldn’t you think they would feel embarrassed at only performing to a high level because of the physical advantages of being a male on a women’s sports team?

It reminds me of the time Boris Johnson took out a 10-year-old boy in a rugby match in Japan in order to score a try.

Pota2 · 19/08/2019 11:05

So depressing that this is the state of academia today. Total absence of critical thought- just reactionary bullshit.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/08/2019 11:15

I'm nearly six foot, and when I did a competitive martial arts tournament I did receive hostility from other women actually, based on my height.

I never did it again, not enough support around me (team wise) to deal with the horrible people involved. Not fun. I'm a woman socialised as a woman I guess, I like being liked. Maybe a man wouldn't have cared. Dunno. Makes me sad. I think it would be different at a higher level. I don't know why they did a competitive fighting tournament if they didn't want to be tapped.

However I've never seen anyone in this debate ever say anything other than sport should be divided by sex. Male sport. Female sport. TRAs just make shit up.

Ereshkigal · 19/08/2019 11:25

So much this.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 19/08/2019 11:27

TRAs just make shit up

It's the twisted logic, here it's "trans-women-are-women so why would they not want this woman to compete, oh it must be her height."

It's totally stupid logic but that's where pretending sex doesn't exist gets you.

terryleather · 19/08/2019 11:29

t seems the new strategy is to make up outrageous things, attribute them to gc feminists as a means of discrediting the whole argument.

Tbh that's been a strategy from the get-go.

As the entire ideology is build on bs and lies that approach along with most oppressed ever is all they have.

I agree it's infuriating to try to deal with, but we just have to keep countering with truth and facts.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/08/2019 11:37

So let me get this straight.

If I say I'm good with Venus Williams competing in women's tennis but think Olivier Rochus should be banned from doing so I'm not transphobic after all because, height?

DuMondeB · 19/08/2019 11:59

This is why there is no point engaging with TRAs.

We need to ignore them and speak to everyone else instead. Especially other women, politicians and law makers.

GirlDownUnder · 19/08/2019 12:11

Apparently transphobes believe women over 6ft shouldn’t be allowed compete in women’s sports.

So, judging by this thread none of us are transphobic. Good news!

Winning. TRA style. Hmm

Michelleoftheresistance · 19/08/2019 13:04

I don't think any GC woman is transphobic.

Entitledmisogynistmuppetphobic, definitely.

Goosefoot · 19/08/2019 13:12

What can be tricky about this is that sometimes people have said something that seems similar to what they are claiming. So people often point out that greater size, as a group, is part of the advantage men, as a group, have over women, as a group.

A lot of people are really just incapable of thinking in terms of class relations. Or they can, but then can't switch to individual contexts. Or they can't switch between personal instances and principles.

So they make these errors in understanding arguments - maybe deliberately but in any case a lot of people think its valid because they can't see the difference.

But -

So depressing that this is the state of academia today. Total absence of critical thought- just reactionary bullshit.

How the heck do you get an advanced degree if you can't get to the higher types of abstract thought?

SunsetBeetch · 19/08/2019 13:23

A tall woman still has far more in common physically with another woman than she has with a man.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 19/08/2019 13:31

We know it isn't about size from the numerous sports that have weight categories where size for size men out-perform women.

It is an absolute nonsense to go round pretending you don't know this. Just plain bare faced lying.

SheWhoMustBeSilent · 19/08/2019 14:17

I think the subsequent tweets rather tells their own story Grin

[Hint: he got his backside handed to him!]

DickKerrLadies · 19/08/2019 14:39

Ha! I thought this was just some random person tweeting lies but their twitter bio says "We aim to share facts & our actual experiences whilst dispelling myths"!! Grin

Self-identified facts, I suppose.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 19/08/2019 15:45

I love the only response they've written is:

"Transwomen are women"

Right. So that's your argument

koshkat · 19/08/2019 16:52

They are so unutterably dense that it is hardly worth engaging tbf.

Coyoacan · 19/08/2019 17:34

Certainly the intellectual strength is all on the GC side.

Juells · 19/08/2019 20:07

It's the 'EU bans bent bananas' line. An American told me in all seriousness that in the EU you're not allowed open egg boxes to check for cracked eggs, the EU made it illegal. There's no freedom in Europe, only US citizens are free to open egg boxes. Grin

Tell an outrageous lie, and fools believe it.
