Hi Pegasus Rex! So exciting to have our own Lesbian Strength contact - and speaker.
Sorry I didn't see any of the flyers, and on reflection realised how difficult it would be to write something that a casual reader would take on board - as women would have attended for different reasons. After all there may well have been some right wing tory Lesbians equally firm about what a lesbian is but maybe not so supportive of other politics - like feminism!
So really interested in seeing what you had on the flyers - can you copy and paste here? And yes as someone said up thread, next time we could maybe print out a few of our own if funds are short.
Hope you dont mind taking advantage of you being on this thread to give some "feedback" or what I hope are positive ideas for next times. And appreciate everyone will have their own view point depending on their own experience and politics.
It was great that so much money was raised through the fundraiser but I think some women weren't aware that there was money to claim. Some women maybe didn't even think about trying to get there as they knew they couldn't afford the fares, or would need to find someone to take on the role of a main carer for one day, or childcare. So just saying maybe that info should be somewhere more prominent on the eventbrite page.
Also, it was great that there was a social, but as nobody knew about it in advance, so couldn't go as they would have booked tickets / made other arrangements on the basis of the event being advertised as ending at 5pm. And there may have been some women who could have come but didn't as they thought the cost of drinks and food at a hotel would be more than they could manage.
Is it worth thinking about having a separate eventbrite page for a social, as this would not only alert women to the fact that there was one, but would give the organisers some idea of numbers. And if it meant having to charge entry have an option for women to pay for someone else's ticket. Venue could of course be tbc.
Just some thoughts, and I am sure when you meet up you will all be full of ideas. So thanks to all of you, and those who helped out, like the woman who looked after the sound system.
And for my special request of there being tea and cake when the march arrives at the rally was thinking how sad it is that the WI wouldn't want to have a stall as I understand they are all very woke.
Maybe the WRVS could come with a sturdy trolley and hand out sensible mugs of tea and rock cakes! Do they still even exist?
for all your work.
Afterthought: Hope that Sandra McNeill and Linda Bellow will also share their speeches. Nice to see that someone who used to be a revolutionary feminist www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3684791-The-Need-for-Revolutionary-Feminism-by-Sheila-Jeffreys-as-Radical-Feminism-was-too-liberal sharing a platform with someone who used to be seen as a socialist feminist. Lesbian Strength?
