The daily grind of entitled wankers

A slightly unusual question for the board

I’m looking at driving again after a very long time. Today I had a refresher lesson. It was nice. But I did find myself wondering, will my world contain more or fewer entitled wankers if I’m driving again? As opposed to frequent public transport and a cab about once a week?

This may be the maddest question on the board but ...life is so full of arses.

DH is 6 foot 7 and I'm 5 foot 4 - you can imagine the fun we had car shopping recently for a car for both of us.

DH does not believe how differently other road users act toward you in different cars - I used to get a relatively easy ride in an old Merc... loads of horns blared, fingers flicked and headlights flashed irrately in a stereotypical "woman's hatchback" (Nissan Note for anyone interested)... minimal aggro in DH's lumbering Zafira (but god it's awful to drive) and I get loads of sworn comments if I'm seen anywhere near school in my 4x4 style current car (because of the "little women in huge cars" stereotype I assume - despite the fact we have the car as regularly need to go down dirt tracks and because of DH's height). It's amazing the different way other road users react.

I have a Hyundai incidentally - adjustable seat height and steering wheel mean me and DH can both drive it comfortably - although the fact I've not bothered to tell DH where half of the adjustment levers are means I get to keep things mostly set how I like them in terms of seat height! (He's too lazy to read the manual)

Hyundai is on my list.

Tbh the PCP plans have altered my list. Blush

Terrible isn’t it, you start off thinking “oh this will do” and half an hour later, you start on “ooh, alloy wheels”. The shame!

5 -3 My Hyundai i10 is fine.
You could get a grey wig and keep it in the car. Much less trouble since I stopped tinting blonde.
Advice now is hold steering wheel with bag at 4:40 save breaking both arms on bag in the event of crash.

Grace212 · 11/08/2019 14:18

Lucy, thanks for the 4.40 tip.

Had a lesson with a lovely lady today. Well, I say lovely....I dunno, she just let me drive! So I like her!

It was okay. We went to some quiet roads and she quickly said “oh you’re all right for the main road” and then after she said “you’ll be fine on dual carriageway but need to do that outside of rush hour.”

So will do that on Saturday. I asked how many lessons she thought would be needed, I said half a dozen and she said “well if you want, but you’re probably fine before that”.

Also, automatic car! Nice.

Good, well done!

PCP plans...hum...think very carefully about whether that really makes sense for you, and beware the upselling. There's a lot of people nowadays driving around in flashy cars they can't really afford, I'm afraid.

I had a row with some entitled wanker in a Land Rover a couple of days ago. Apparently I should have pulled in to let him pass even though it was more convenient for him to pull in. He wound down his window to tell me off because as "his car was bigger" it would have made more sense for me to let him pass. I told him if his car was too big for him to drive then he shouldn't have bought it and then drove off quickly because I am a coward really

OldCrone · 13/08/2019 00:17

Are you going to have all your lessons in an automatic? If you take your test in one, you'll only have a licence for automatics.

Grace212 · 13/08/2019 06:15

OldCrone

These are refresher lessons. Never drove automatic before yesterday!

Interesting reading this. I remember my 4ft 11 mum having to drive with sitting on a cushion! I'm short too, 5ft 2, but my Kia is fine, and maybe because i have massive man feet (size7) for my height.

Grace212 · 13/08/2019 14:37

Errol, I can pay up front but with 0% it almost makes more sense not to. That money could earn interest instead. So I’m not sure.

I’ve got a pair of trainers that are slightly too big for me, should I wear those for next lesson?!
