Mermaids and West Yorkshire Police again

Natasha Handley, policy and engagement officer at Mermaids, reported both Heather Brunskell-Evans and Councillor Sarah Field for hate crime because they both spoke about women's rights in Leeds.

Handley also works for Trans Leeds.

From Heather:

I'm pleased to inform you @WestYorksPolice have not taken further Natasha Handley's complaint that my views about the medical transitioning of children constitute a hate crime. I wonder whether the police would still like to correct my thinking? @BBCr4today @HarryTheOwl

and

twitter.com/brunskellevans/status/1158691956354158593

"I'm even more delighted to let people know that Natasha Handley's claim that Cllr Sarah Field spoke 'hate' in the following talk www.youtube.com/watch?v=dOxdD9LB4v0 … has also been dismissed by @WestYorksPolice & Leeds City Council"

As we know, Sarah Field has been battling cancer.

WYP have been sitting on this for months.

This is all so sinister. Can you imagine if women were able to get a "hate incident" logged and a hate crime investigated every time that men said something we didn't like about us?

Unbelievable.

Glad HBE and Sarah Fields have had this matter dropped. Wonderful women.

Birdsfoottrefoil · 07/08/2019 11:43

sonic it is worse than that: women defending themselves against misogyny/‘hate incidents’ are being reported for ‘hate’.

terfsandwich · 07/08/2019 11:54

Yes there's a giant billboard in Detroit that states "trans people are sacred". It's accompanied by a load of willy-shaped skyscrapers.

buttertoasty · 07/08/2019 12:25

I didn't know that hate crime doesn't include sex

So it's ok for us to be called sluts, cunts, whores etc, but not ok to say he instead of she? Perhaps when TW start being called those names something will change; although probably not because it's gender affirming to them.

TheBigBallOfOil · 07/08/2019 13:39

Trans people aren’t intrinsically amazing, but they don’t need to be to be entitled to freedom from discrimination and harassment. None of us do.
Trouble is that’s not enough for certain people. They want superior entitlements. Well no.

DuMondeB · 07/08/2019 13:48

I may need wine to get through the ‘training session’.

AncientLights · 07/08/2019 18:02

Natasha Handley's workshop purports to include:-

interactive workshops where participants can get involved. and a Q and A at the end where any questions you have can be asked in a safe, non-judgemental environment

Only the right questions mind, don't go asking any of those pesky challenging ones. Or you're for the Gulag.

DuMondeB · 08/08/2019 10:06

I watched it. Took several small sessions to prevent being patronised to death.

Handley claims to have Klinefelter’s (XXY chromosomes) and spends a lot of time on intersex topics, considering the slide on the subject is titled ‘honourable mention’.
At one point PCOS is described as ‘affecting ciswomen’ which seems terribly dismissive of ovary bearing transmen, no?

Anyway, the general gist from an employers/workplace point of view was ‘make all the toilets unisex, even ones with urinals’ (no mention in how this can adversely affect non-trans employees, nor that ‘sex’ is a protected characteristic relevant to the EA 2010) and add ‘Mx’ as a title option on HR spreadsheets.

At the end Handley says they’ve been influential at getting the changing rooms at at Leeds dance organisation classified as ‘use whichever you feel most comfortable in’. Holy fuck!

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 10:26

Yes, they will still be recorded hate incidents.

Well, I'm pleased they won't be charged with a hate crime, but ^ that is ridiculous. Beyond ridiculous.

And it's what the TRA's want - to be able to go the govt and day "see all these hate incidents, we need self ID blah blah."

RJFirth · 08/08/2019 22:03

I found the course very informative.

zebrasdontwearbras · 08/08/2019 22:08

Hello RIchard - did the course tell you how to yell at female homosexuals? You did so well at that.

Are you aware that behaviour such as yours is peak-transing many decent men on twitter - the men who care about the women in their lives?

2Rebecca · 08/08/2019 22:15

"Every sperm is sacred"

2Rebecca · 08/08/2019 22:16

I need a musical note emoji

I'm absolutely sure you knew the entire content of the course before you went Richard.

Popchyk · 09/08/2019 10:20

Oh, that's Richard from the Green Party.

Dedicates his life to hounding women who wish to discuss women's rights.

No time for environmental issues, climate change or any of that stuff. Stepped right into the Challenors' shoes there.

Had a look at the Green Party LGBTQVC committee.

Seems to be 80% men. And at least 95% white. How is that diverse exactly? If you were a diversity officer, you'd be pretty ashamed of your efforts, wouldn't you? Of course it is hard to promote diversity when you stipulate that everyone has to be a misogynist. And I'm sure half of them will identify as two spirit or something.

Mind you, Richard of course has no time to consider diversity, too busy hounding women.

That James Vessey-Miller is on that committee. He's the one who tried to get Miranda Yardley, a transexual, sacked from the Labour party for not being the correct sort of transgender. Another one with endless free time to hound wrongthinkers. Does anyone actually do any green activism in that party?

Worth remembering that this was the committee that helped the Challenors get an injunction against Andy Healey, a Green Party member, to stop him raising concerns about safeguarding. Lee-Anne Lawrence (currently on the committee) appears on the court papers for the Challenors' injuction against Andy Healey.

And the LGBT committee itself raised a complaint about Healey (on Challenor's instruction) and got him suspended for asking questions about safeguarding.

But that was totally justified, right? It's not like a 10 year old girl was being raped and tortured in the Challenor house, right?

Green Party are an absolute joke.

Thanks for reminding us, Richard.

Careful you don't drop that plate with your arse on it on the way out Richard.
