Evening folks,
This isn't a feminist issue, rather an issue from this feminist to you all.
My partner has a nut allergy, not airborne, just touch/taste.
We're flying with Emirates later this week and (can't believe I didn't check before!!) they provide nuts as a snack on all flights.
Now, providing we wipe down all our area before/during/after my partner should be okay, but this has got me thinking about how in this day and age they're still unnecessarily serving nuts.
Emirates has vegan, vegetarian, lactose free meal along with fruit platters for people who are on a religious fasting period. I can understand not guaranteeing a nut free meal, I appreciate that's a lot harder, but serving nut snacks isn't a requirement these days. Other airlines have canned this, and even make an announcement asking passengers to refrain from eating any nuts they have brought aboard (I appreciate this is an individuals choice, but the announcement shows effort on the airlines part). Emirates won't do this.
Their nut policy is completely exclusive. I quote "Nuts are served on all Emirates flights" from their website.
Now to the main part of my post. This is an important matter for our family. In 2019 everywhere posts allergen menus, has other options, appreciates allergies exist and cause daily risk to people. Emirates has not gotten on board at all and I'm hoping to change this.
I'm asking your advice as I see (daily!) on here, petitions, protests, online movements where feminists manage to reach a wider audience spreading the word, even involving celebrities. I'd like to be able to do the same. I have a twitter and LinkedIn account but no other social media.
Being able to have them eventually change their flights' nut policy would make a huge difference to people like my partner.
It's 2019, Emirates can cater for choices like veganism/vegetarianism and ailments such as celiacs/lactose intolerance, I'm hoping I can add nut allergies to that list too.
How can an insignificant, young woman like myself manage this? I feel like a tiny fish in a massive pond. I just want to make a little difference.
All advise welcome, thank you all.
