Where are the Terrible TERFs?

I keep on hearing about TERFs who want to deny that trans people can possibly exist in any way shape or form... that the presence of TERFs at Pride events warrants extensive risk assessments. TERFs who want to be violent. TERFs who want to shut down any and all rights of trans people. And I wonder where these extreme TERFs are? I consider myself a TERF thanks to reading mumsnet. I'm at great pains to point out that I want Trans people to be safe happy free and well; just don't let it be at the expense of women's sex based rights. I think the overwhelming majority of people here hold a similar view, and when in person I've met somebody talking about Those Terrible TERFs it seems that my views aren't what they are talking about. That they think there is some way more extreme, dark group of people who are evil anti-trans rights. I am a bit surprised that I haven't come across anybody or anything written by this extremist subset. Have I just led a sheltered life? Do extreme TERFs exist? What are their opinions and stances? Is the any evidence of them being violent at Pride or other events?

I'd be right puffed out if I'd just said all that.

Having seen comments on a Guardian article the other day stating that T*ERFs kill (such a bad acronym you can't even spell it in case of offence) it seems that it is the "crime" of invalidation that is the problem.

If you are trying to keep a group of people singing the company line, there is nothing like a vague nebulous enemy that threatens their very existence, that want to erase them, that see them less than them. It helps if you can paint this enemy as worse than the nazis because then anything you do to them has to be right

Preemptive defence chickenish. So many times if you express a pro women or pro reality view someone describes it as "hate speech" or "transphobia" so some people try to get in there first and point out they wish trans people well.

It doesn't work though I don't think. Because trans people don't actually think we hate them; reasonable ones often agree with us, and TRAs just call it hate to stop people listening to what women are actually saying.

This is what it pretty much comes down to. There is a reason TRA's are wanting debate silenced.

People would generally come to that opinion on the bases of what is said after that prefix. Rather than to silence someone before they have said anything.

Yup, T*ERFs are regularly bombing places the trans community hang out.

Funnily enough, I've yet to see an actual feminist woman planning or desiring violence. You know, the actual physically dangerous violence.

I've seen lots of transactivists explaining why their plans, desires and acts of violence against women are completely justified because they don't like the thoughts those women express.

So I guess you would have to ask the AWA trans activist types why anyone would be happy to be an extremist wannabe firebomber.

Terrible Terfs don't exist. It's a DARVO technique. They issue us with threats, harass us, deplatform us and in one case a woman was assaulted, then they deflect their crimes onto us and tell everyone we are doing the horrible things they are in fact doing to us. A very common tactic used by domestic abusers and general cluster B personality types. I even saw recently they accused Terfs of using DARVO on them! So they are now darvoing darvo!

It's unfortunately an affective strategy and fools a lot of people unless they are willing to do a bit of research themselves and find out what is really happening.
