A reasonable demand that the BBC start reporting the trans issues in a more accurate way.

Wow. What an excellent assessment.

I need to check the bbc complaints thread now.

RoyalCorgi · 30/07/2019 07:27

Great article, but nearly a year old.

Doyoumind · 30/07/2019 07:35

Good piece. The BBC did go back and in some way reveal the truth about the MB NSPCC debacle after his article criticising the way that was covered, so it's important he's doing this.

Doyoumind · 30/07/2019 07:36

Ah yes. Didn't see the date.

BadgertheBodger · 30/07/2019 07:39

I’ve said it before but as a consequence of following the excellent journalism of James Kirkup, Janice Turner et al on the trans subject I have enjoyed reading a much wider range of news and opinion than I previously got from the Guardian. It’s so refreshing to see proper journalism. Janes Kirkup is absolutely correct, the BBC need to massively up their game - from online coverage to that berk at R4 who doesn’t think women should be heard

BadgertheBodger · 30/07/2019 07:40

Also didn’t notice the date!

I remember that fact check piece. It was one of the first things that made me start to think ‘WTF BBC?’

James Kirkup says this regarding males in women’s prisons:

There’s more to come on this issue, incidentally, but much of it is subject to court action and can’t yet be reported. But I think there are some awkward questions coming for prison chiefs and politicians alike, in due course

I’m not aware of any court action about this-does anyone know about it?

OldCrone · 30/07/2019 08:32

Was it the Karen White story?

RoyalCorgi · 30/07/2019 08:32

I think the court action was the Karen White case - when James was writing, I believe White was on remand, and it was only in September that White was convicted for rape.

BitchyArriver · 30/07/2019 08:39

Can anyone explain how Councillor Murray is trans?

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 30/07/2019 08:40

Ah, Karen White, of course

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 30/07/2019 09:35

If I recall rightly Councillor Murray is trans because Councillor Murray owns a pair of rainbow wellies.

Cookieflavoredbiscuit · 31/07/2019 08:24

I hadn't noticed the date either, and I followed the link in the article to check the recommended work of Nick Robinson, who I've never heard of before. There's an interview with Paris Lee, and it made me wonder when it was recorded, because (insert forbidden pronoun which I really resent being forbidden to use, especially in a supposedly feminist-friendly cyber-space) was getting annoyed about people thinking about "what if"fy things that have actually been happening, and Nick didn't call (insert another forbidden pronoun) out on it at all. Then () was going on about how transwomen are asking for zero accommodation in terms of safety, dignity, or anything at all. I really wish the media, but especially any publicly funded media outlet, wouldn't keep letting that one slide.
