Vogue mag - collection of inspiring women from the Duchess of Sussex. She includes Laverne Cox.
At least we know now!

Yeah, I get that. But as PP have pointed out, she could have avoided the whole thing by not giving in to Enniful's flattery in the first place. That man won't rest till he's destroyed Vogue from the inside or turned it into Pink News

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2019 11:57

So my post has been deleted so I will try again
I knew as soon as I saw the headline that at least one person on the list was assigned Male at birth and I was right.
Hope that passes the censor

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 29/07/2019 11:59

Fucking hell

I wondered why you’d been deleted Hopping

Our speech truly is constantly policed. Even when we’re talking about the duchess of pissing Sussex

XXcstatic · 29/07/2019 12:01

Thanks for posting the Lipstick Alley link, @drspouse - the comments give me hope that the whole US hasn't swallowed the Kool Aid.

TheBigBallOfOil · 29/07/2019 12:01

Bernard, I take exception. Sussex is a very nice place. You meant to say the pissing duchess of Sussex, I am certain.

Missingstreetlife · 29/07/2019 12:12

It's vogue, not socialist worker. Never know for it's radical credentials.

derxa · 29/07/2019 12:26

The only certainty is that all MM threads are deleted.

ArnoldWhatshisknickers · 29/07/2019 12:37

I'm another who thought this was a Meghan Murphy thread.

I really don't care about the views of minor royalty, or major royalty for that matter. I've never understood the fascination with such people.

Thanks for posting the Lipstick Alley link, the comments give me hope that the whole US hasn't swallowed the Kool Aid

The women of Lipstick Alley are fierce and tolerate no shite. I have been a fan in a lurking kind of way for a long time. Sometimes I think it is easy to forget that there are many groups who have been opposing this crap and think it is only you. It's nice to be reminded that isn't the case.

MockerstheFeManist · 29/07/2019 12:51

I am in full-on OFFS mode after watching Bonnie Greer on the news.

Apparently, dear old Megs spent her pregnancy 'busy editing a magazine.'

Can we sort this out?

First, a 'guest editor' is not an editor. They do not edit anything. The most they do is write a list of suggestions for the (real) editor.

Second, this list will have been written by a PR person employed to make their client look good.

Royals. They travel around a bit and say hello to some people. That's it.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2019 13:47

Bernard my crime was to use the word “man”
I did not and would not say anything nasty about MM

BernardBlacksWineIceLolly · 29/07/2019 13:56

Sorry Hopping, didn’t make myself clear

I know you were completely pleasant about the pissing duchess of Sussex (got it right this time!)

terryleather · 29/07/2019 14:01

I thought this was about Meghan Murphy! Disappointed to learn it’s about the royal one

Same here!

Can we please just get rid of the whole royal family. I do not care what these people think. I am sick of being told by them what I should think, care about and be interested in. Can they all just shut the fuck up and fuck the fuck off now please.

If only...

GrimDamnFanjo · 29/07/2019 14:33

Getting off the subject a bit I'd be very surprised if this venture had been organised through the palace given her choices and the remark that putting herself on the cover would have been "boastful"
I think the Duchess of Sussex should be using her platform for real causes. The Grenfell charity is a good example, but when you remember Diana with HIV and landmines...

@MNHQ

Can someone please explain how I broke talk guidelines?

ArabellaDoreenFig · 29/07/2019 15:38

Women are oppressed because of their sex, and I think that the inclusion of someone born male in a list of inspirational women is an insult to all those born female.

Hoppinggreen · 29/07/2019 15:38

Did you call someone a man? Arabella
Not allowed apparently

AnotherAdultHumanFemale · 29/07/2019 17:43

All mainstream 'feminism' that appears in magazines like Vogue is silly liberal 'feminism' that centres the rights of penises in everything (such as porn, prostitution and transgenderism). It would be a great relief if they could finally stop appropriating the word feminism and use menzism or something that suits them better like that. Men's rights activism would suit them better since that is now what they are fighting for, even if most of them haven't yet figured that out.

Goosefoot · 29/07/2019 17:50

I don't think her list is very interesting, but honestly, most people aren't interesting. They are generally nice enough anyway.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 29/07/2019 19:28

I really don’t care about Vogue ( never bought one they’re ridiculously expensive and not relevant to my life ) or a member of the royal family, but as a kiwi I am laughing out loud at Ardern’s inclusion... not worth getting worked up about tbh

BendyBurrito · 30/07/2019 03:42

Didn't she and Harry support Mermaids? So we kind of already knew.

Rachelover40 · 30/07/2019 13:35

I doubt Harry really understands about Mermaids. When I heard about them they seemed OK on first glance - then I read a lot more and was horrified!

Ali1cedowntherabbithole · 30/07/2019 14:10

Mockers

Second, this list will have been written by a PR person employed to make their client look good.

Have you read any of the copy? Grin I'm willing to bet that it wasn't written by a professional.

vaginafetishist · 30/07/2019 15:48

Ooh Lipstick Alley

I haven't felt so uplifted since I found Gender trender.

Lawlsie1976 · 30/07/2019 16:22

Feminism does now seem to mean something quite different from what it meant when I was first a feminist, in 1972, aged 16 after reading The Female Eunuch. When I was at college we'd have been thrilled to have Germaine Greer come and speak to us. I can't imagine anyone would have objected.

Now she's no-platformed for reasons I cannot understand. When we had No Platform in the mid to late 70s it was specifically stated it was against fascists and racists. Mainly the National Front, the equivalent then of the British National Party. The idea it would ever be used to silence a left-of-centre pioneer feminist who was to many of us a heroine is beyond bizarre.

As for Vogue... I have very little interest in fashion but I adored the film The September Issue and found it quite compelling viewing. That it managed to get an audience beyond fashion fans is testimony to how interesting it was. I don't find the idea of Meghan Murphy's guest editorship remotely as interesting. It's good PR for the mag but I imagine it isn't selling in anything like the numbers it did in 2009 when The September Issue came out. If you haven't seen it, I really do recommend it.

MsSafina · 30/07/2019 22:14

This B List actor has had 2 million of taxpayer's money spent on her new home renovations and now has the cheek to tell the plebs how they should behave. Really she wanted a Vogue cover for herself but this was a covert way of getting round it. As always celebs virtue signalling get up everyone's noses. The Queen does a good job but after her death there needs to be referendum about whether the ever proliferating Windsor family should be allowed to continue.
