Following the bus attack.
It will be interesting to warch this case and see what the outcome will be. I hope they will be suitably punished and the proceedings will be covered appropriately.

Why haven't they been charged with assault?

Or have they and its just the hate crime part that is being reported.

I find this a bit odd.

endofthelinefinally · 26/07/2019 09:27

I find it very odd.
Considering that women have recently been charged with hate crimes for using "wrong language" and ended up going through awful court cases, I would have expected these boys to have been charged with assault, ABH as well.
Of course it could just be the BBC reporting.

It was reported on TV as a 'possible hate crime', presumably because it hasn't been proved in court yet. Thought it was very poor wording.

Is there a link for this news?

The verbal report on BBC yesterday just said "Hate crime".
The link states "aggravated hate crime".
So I suppose it remains to be seen how the case proceeds.
Those poor women.

Thanks endof. Great to know that they've been found and arrested.

What must their 16 short years have been like to have led them to behave in such a violent and terrifying way towards other people? Wtf are we doing to our children?

Fraggling · 26/07/2019 10:05

To me it really feels like they are downgrading this, a lot of people feel hate crime legislation is pc gorn mad and silly, so will read hate crime and think oh fuss about nothing.

My understanding is that with hate crime you got it as an extra so this would be something like crime 1, assault, crime 2, hate motivation.

It's really weird how this is being reported.

LangCleg · 26/07/2019 10:07

They've been charged with a crime with an aggravating factor of hate.

Presumably the crime is assault or ABH or similar.

I wish the BBC would get this right. No such thing as a hate crime.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 26/07/2019 10:09

They've been charged with a crime with an aggravating factor of hate.

Thanks for that clarification. I was also going to question the actual charge.

Fraggling · 26/07/2019 10:10

They seem to be deliberately downplaying this, to my view.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 26/07/2019 10:16

Well it is the BBC

Fraggling · 26/07/2019 10:18

They carefully list out the other crimes they are charged with, handling stolen goods etc

Useless.

Oblomov19 · 26/07/2019 10:27

Agreed. Totally downplaying! Angry

LangCleg · 26/07/2019 10:45

Thanks for that clarification. I was also going to question the actual charge.

It's so infuriating. Reading that article, people are going to think there is such a thing as a crime that is purely "hate". But there isn't. Rightly, CPS is trying to collect data so it is important that they can establish, say, the number of assaults that are aggravated by hate. But there's no new crime of "hate".

JessicaWakefieldSV · 26/07/2019 11:26

It is infuriating and I’ll admit my own confusion as to that law, so it’s great you’ve made it clear. It is blimin annoying media, I think deliberately, confuse matters like this.

endofthelinefinally · 26/07/2019 11:28

It comes back to language IMO.
Yes, my first thought was that this is downplaying.
Because it was an assault on women? Lesbians?
Just makes me uncomfortable and confirms my opinion of the BBC reporting.
I also thought of the phrase "literal violence" and thought, well, this is an example of literal violence that resulted in the victims needing hospital treatment.
I am not unfamiliar with violent crime on public transport.
My DC were mugged more times than I can recall.
But this is really disturbing.

They’re probably downplaying it because of the background of the accused perpetrators. This when the woke ideology collides and has a meltdown. Love islam, love homosexuals, love feminists, love trans people, love vegans. We’re all shiny happy people holding hands resisting the nazi gammons

Caucho · 26/07/2019 23:10

Love refugees, hate Asian homophobic protesters outside schools, love trans people, hate terf butch dukes blah blah fucking blah

Caucho · 26/07/2019 23:11

Dykes FFS but dukes aren’t popular either the privileged cunts
