TRAs scent blood

Following on from the TRAs getting the gay male writer Gareth Roberts sacked from a BBC project for the crime of knowing you can't chase sex, they've now identified a new target.

James Dreyfus, the openly gay actor, has said he supports trans rights - but not at the expense of women and girls' safety.

There is now a concerted twitter campaign to get him sacked by the media producer Big Finish. Big Finish are being bombarded with complaints, and they've just put out a mealy mouthed statement about not wanting to be company that people felt uncomfortable working with.

I suspect that Mr D is for the chop.

But i like him!!

This isn’t going to end well

terryleather · 25/07/2019 19:01

about not wanting to be company that people felt uncomfortable working with.

When are people going to start feeling uncomfortable about pandering to the ridiculous demands of narc bullies with an agenda ffs.

I wont hold my breath.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 19:05

My dh was at school with him. Said he was an amazing school boy actor. I like him. Hope he’s ok.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 19:08

I like him too, he’s not new to supporting us so why have they targeted him now?

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 25/07/2019 19:13

Yes he’s been ‘out’ on Twitter for ages

He was in gimme gimme gimme wasn’t he? I really liked that

JessicaWakefieldSV · 25/07/2019 19:15

I’ve sent an email to them in support of James.

AncientLights · 25/07/2019 19:15

I don't read the statement in a negative light. It does sit on the fence but I can't tell which way they might jump. They do list the protected charactistics correctly AFAIK, including sex and gender reassignment.

James D says he supports trans rights: don't we all? Just not at our expense. If they do boot him out it'll look like they think disregarding women's rights is the way to go.

Fingers crossed for James anyway.

Helen Joyce has a thread in response to the claim that gay men are going to endure any backlash.

There are no organizations at all speaking for gay men. None. When Stonewall etc turn into blazing child protection scandals, the TRAs will disappear and gay men will get the blame. (This is the claim she is responding to when she writes, "I hope not".)

James D is on the right side of history for this and I admire his stance. I know little about him but I'd be startled if he's ever directly (rather than theoretically) made a colleague feel uncomfortable.

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 19:23

Send Kathy Burke after the TRAs
Think I know who’s winning that one

BatShite · 25/07/2019 19:30

That companies are feeling the need to sack people over not believing its possible to change sex, is utterly insane. Cannot really blame TRAs for their abusive behaviour when so many places pander to the nonsense. Sacking people for caring about women/womens rights is just fucking vile. Yet seemingly, common and applauded. Baffling.

terryleather · 25/07/2019 19:30

I adore KB but from what I've seen on Twitter (this was a while back right enough) she's not GC - would absolutely love to be proved wrong though....

TheBigBallOfOil · 25/07/2019 19:32

Really? Jesus. She’s the last person I’d expect to fall for this crap

terryleather · 25/07/2019 19:47

I know, it's surprising sometimes who sees through it and who doesn't.

Of the many things to hate about Twitter, finding out who amongst those you admire has drunk the Kool Aid was always depressing. As I say, I'd love to be proved wrong.

As an aside if anyone wants 45 minutes of absolute joy then I'd recommend they listen to KB on Desert Island Discs - she is a revelation.

TriptychDebbie · 25/07/2019 19:51

James is a fabulous man. I've had several chats with him on Twitter and he even thanked a group of us for defending him when TRAs started to attack him and call him a paedophile for sticking up for women.

They're utterly evil bastards with no morals. Poor James.

MsMarvellous · 25/07/2019 19:52

I met James Dreyfus after a play he was in once. I have a picture somewhere (pre digital). He was a fabulous man and so so lovely.

Juells · 25/07/2019 20:05

FFS the fucking drama llamas in the replies! I thought Rickie Gervais was slightly cruel when I watched him on youtube recently, when he being all hand-wavey, but honestagod that's all I could imagine when reading the over-the-top comments about how James Dreyfus was literally killing people by talking about women's rights.

"Do you realise how many LGBT people buy your products!!!!???"

Oh fuck off, loving the drama.

That company is shit-poor. Why don't other actors support JD and boycott Big Finish? What will be the next thing they dump an actor for?

LizzieSiddal · 25/07/2019 23:35

Getting off this thing for today. Thanks to all who supported. To those who simply parroted untruths & maliciousness, eventually I might have to resort to lawyering up. But for the moment, get to fuck.

James doesn’t seem too bothered Grin I bloody love him.

ZebrasAreBras · 26/07/2019 01:11

Congratulations to the Big Finish people for actually getting the protected characteristics of the Equality Act correct! Makes a pleasant change.

I think James Dreyfus is a lovely bloke - it's great that women have his support.

Fuck those TRA bullies.
