The stuff on lesbian erasure is really sad. I remember the Annie Lister marriage plaque fight, and a discussion that was had about it on a York Facebook group.
Half the people didn't want the plaque to say "lesbian" because they "didn't like the word lesbian. A woman who loved women, was fine. Not lesbian. I was really shocked!
Then there was a couple of trans activists who claimed as Annie was gender non conforming, she was in fact a he, a transman. Despite the fact she wrote a diary describing herself as female. To be fair, most people on the group didn't have the faintest idea what they were on about.
Eventually though the initial plaque was replaced and Annie was recognised for what she was, a lesbian.
The homophobia behind all this stuff is depressing and disgusting.
