Is anyone else eyeerolling that quite a few papers are reporting on Theresa May being given an expensive bag and necklace as a leaving gift? I cant see anything that tells us what David Cameron got when he resigned - seems completely mad.
ALSO, Gove's wife bought it apparently, I can see the aibu now

"My husbands boss is leaving, they've had a whip round but I've been left to buy the gift".

Cabinet Ministers chipped in £100 each to buy him a leaving present, The Sun can reveal. The bumper-sized political Cabinet of 30 meant there was £3,000 in the kitty — with a solid silver beer tankard among the possible gifts

No, I'm not eye-rolling- should I be?

Theresa May could have done a small thing to salvage her reputation by asking for her leaving gifts to be turned into a donation to a charity. Making a point as well as helping others.

But no, sadly.

LassOfFyvie couldnt find details on cameron when I looked. I now feel kind of bad she got half of what Cameron did!

No I don't begrudge anyone a leaving present when they finish a job. I'm assuming ministers chipped in with their own money. She loves clothes and fashion so it seems an appropriate choice.

But I agree it's hardly newsworthy in the scheme of things.

Who honestly gives a shiny shit. The woman has probably more handbags than all of us put together.

Still, it's the done thing on leaving the Office I suppose. Tears all round.

She would have been criticised for her choice of charity- no matter what it was. It's hardly newsworthy , although The Sun reported what Cameron got, but neither does it merit sniping about.

To be honest, I thought ‘leaving gift’ referred to her legacy rather than what she was given on retirement.

I believe what she left behind is known as a ‘Boston steamer.’

Opps I thought it was prawns sewn into the curtain hems

I can't get worked up about her colleagues buying her something they think she'll like. She's clearly into fashion and jewellery.

A bit of a non story.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 24/07/2019 20:21

I would have taken strong exception to that, GirlDownUnder.
