More to the point one would hope, and used to know, that girl guides couldn't impregnate each other...

CatalogueUniverse · 21/12/2019 17:30

ArnoldWhatshisknickers. I’m sorry your brother is being failed bu the mental health system. It’s infuriating to have sexual offences linked to mental health. I’d bet it’s far more likely that people with mental health difficulties hurt themselves.

FlyingOink · 21/12/2019 19:12

This is too much of a generalisation. Some men are short. They are still men, and it's difficult for them to get clothes to fit because the clothes are made for people of average height. Tall women and very short women have the same problem, as do very tall men.
No, a short man with a 15.5 collar won't have sleeves that are so long he has to roll them up. His arms will be in proportion according to the shirt size. There are some short fat men and slim tall men who don't fit those proportions, so shirts can be bought with a slightly longer or slightly shorter sleeve. Most shirts are a standard length. Suits/jackets as you know come in three lengths.
Stephen Whittle has a longer torso and shorter arms for a reason. (To be honest Whittle should buy tailored shirts, but that's not my point. Whittle has changed the law in an underhand way, and appears quite misogynistic, so in this case trans status is relevant.)
There are six foot tall women, and there are five foot tall men. Their physiology and their proportions identify them as women or men.

FlyingOink · 21/12/2019 19:26

I've written and deleted this post three times now.
It's annoying how Whittle can accuse us of X,Y and Z and I have to write and delete and rewrite and delete.

I haven't had any funding.

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 21/12/2019 19:44

Whittle is, as ever, talking out of their arse.

OldCrone · 21/12/2019 21:15

I have a short man sitting next to me (I'm married to him). He has a 15" collar size, but shirt sleeves are always far too long for him. He's not fat but he just said "I do have a thick neck" Grin

The sleeves are too long for the same reason as trousers are always too long for him.

I don't know how tall Stephen Whittle is, but if he's about 5' or not much over, the sleeves are too long because he's short, not because he was born female.

OldCrone · 21/12/2019 21:54

I don't normally use incorrect pronouns for someone's sex, but it's sometimes too difficult to write something intelligible without using pronouns.

ArranUpsideDown · 22/12/2019 14:12

Well, the professor of sexual and reproductive health upthread is now retweeting Helen I/mimmymum as a reliable source on the right wing funding of GC feminists.

I could weep for what this means for the state of EBM in the UK. In the thread she says she's bookmarked it for later use, having presumably lost no time at all checking out the source of her information.

Your fella might be short but his arms will be longer than those of a woman of the same height.
Do you think Whittle passes? My point was that I don't think so. But that's my opinion.

I'm running the risk of sounding obsessed so I'm bowing out of this thread.

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 19:43

I'm going to say yes, I think Stephen Whittle passes - you do get short men, after all.

But then, the effect of testosterone on female bodies is remarkable.

However, if Whittle wants to accuse feminists of being funded by the far right, I'd ask everyone to google 'Jennifer Pritzker' - Trump/Republican supporting billionaire, but who also had the ear of Obama, and lobbied for trans rights Bills in the US, which have been largely implemented to the detriment of women & girls.

Fraggling · 22/12/2019 19:46

I think we're well past the point where 'passing' or not has any bearing on anything tbh

Thelnebriati · 22/12/2019 19:56

That thread is interesting, I can't see any 'source of funding' that isn't a crowdfunder on a recognised platform, and the lists show the donations and amounts.

How come its sinister when women fundraise by amounts of £5 and £10, but not a Certain Well Known Organisation?

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 19:57

Well yes, because transactivists are now talking of "passing privilege" and so on - and claiming that anyone should be able to self ID, no matter how they present. Resulting in male bodied transwomen, with stubble turning up to perform smear tests, and being housed in women's hostels etc.

LangCleg · 22/12/2019 19:58

I bought a cruise with my fat fundie cheque. See you in a month when I get back.

wejammin · 22/12/2019 20:01

I attended a legal training course in October run by child concern, a charity that organise training for lawyers who represent children or parents in family law proceedings. It was all about safeguarding children in relation to current transgender issues - in theory. In reality it was a woke-wash.

Stephen Whittle was one of the speakers and had a presentation which was billed as being a guide to transgender rights under current legislation, but what it actually was, was a manifesto of why trans rights matter.

As part of the presentation was a slide about the 'backlash' with a few choice headline clippings from very right wing publications alongside some chosen Mumsnet comments. I literally sat on my hands.

Stephen Whittle could only stay for a few questions as Stephen Whittle's wife needed Stephen Whittle home for a birthday meal. When asked about single sex provision in terms of child protection Stephen Whittle once again repeated that Guide leaders should carry condoms.

When asked about single sex wards in hospital, Stephen Whittle told a bizarre story about how Stephen Whittle often attended a hospital ward with regard to phalloplasty that was mixed sex and they all had a grand old time together. Stephen Whittle's lack of insight on this point was astounding.

Stephen Whittle also told a ridiculous anecdote about having to attend a vulval clinic at a local hospital and how, after Stephen Whittle's visit, the name of the clinic had been changed so as not to put off nice gentlemen like Stephen Whittle. I checked - it's still called the vulval clinic.

I was most unimpressed by Stephen Whittle.

Fraggling · 22/12/2019 20:03

'When asked about single sex provision in terms of child protection Stephen Whittle once again repeated that Guide leaders should carry condoms.'

Seriously?

What did everyone else make of SW, what did their faces look like

Needmoresleep · 22/12/2019 20:09

Whittle sounds very odd indeed as if fuelled by a burning misogyny. My best guess would be that there was something very damaging in their relationship with their parents that has caused a desire to avenge.

Beamur · 22/12/2019 20:21

Guides are aged 10-14.
These are children. No way would I be taking emergency contraception.

Fraggling · 22/12/2019 20:22

Also guides used to be only girls, as in females.

Them quietly changing from single sex to single gender was awful, and also don't see how it can be legal.

Fraggling · 22/12/2019 20:22

But we've been through all that on here plenty!

RuffleCrow · 22/12/2019 20:25

Yeah the evangelical right is simply legendary in supporting feisty women of various sexualities! I just picked up my million pound cheque - looks like christmas is on me - and i'm just a lowly mn poster, imagine what famous gc feminists must be on Crown Wink

wejammin · 22/12/2019 20:25

@fraggling, very hard to tell. The chair of the panel is, I think, a friend of Stephen Whittle. No-one else seemed to be twitching. I desperately wanted to put my hand up and ask Stephen Whittle to talk me through that logic but I was very aware of that being a bad idea. I did ask questions later of my legal peers on some other points, but still felt out of step with the room.

theflushedzebra · 22/12/2019 20:26

God, it's bad enough that Canadian prisons just hand out the morning after pill to inmates - but condoms at Brownies/Guides? These are underage children - this is a massive failure in safeguarding. Honestly I cannot believe this is happening.

I remember Stephen Whittle coming onto Mumsnet and talking about "very welcome" sexual experiences they had had at Guides or Scouts (I forget which. I found it very very disturbing and distasteful.

RuffleCrow · 22/12/2019 20:32

Ugh @wejammin

Nice one Stephen. Your transition to creepy dude is thoroughly convincing. You pass imo - not so much on your appearance, which is masculine enough but on account of your words. Sad
