Contradictory statements on equality act

From the Guardian today:

No Outsiders teaches according to the Equality Act, and the school’s assistant headteacher Andrew Moffat said it could not pick and choose which elements of it to apply.

Yet in the next paragraph it mentions gender identity (not included in the EA) and of course no mention of the protected characteristic of sex (which is in the EA but nothing at all in the Outsiders programme that looks at or addresses this or the potential conflict with aggressive demands for male access to protected female only spaces, on the basis of gender identity (ie how males feel).

Pupils are taught about diversity, tolerance and acceptance in a broad curriculum encompassing LGBT rights, same-sex relationships, gender identity, race, religion and colour.

The day I see a non biased and intelligent article on this (or any other subject) in The Guardian I'll eat my hat

You'd think gender-conforming heterosexuals didn't exist Grin

The Times have covered this as well today: share token:

And Shelley Charlesworth at Transgender Trend has done an excellent analysis of Moffatt's misprepresentation of the Equality Act - well worth a read:

Sorry - this was the Times article I meant to post from today's edition:

Perhaps Mr Andrew Moffat should make his full teaching resources for each of the protected characteristics available to the public, to reduce any public misunderstanding?

That is, for:

age;
disability;
gender reassignment;
marriage and civil partnership;
pregnancy and maternity;
race;
religion or belief;
sex;
sexual orientation.

Laterthanyouthink · 15/07/2019 20:53

Also featuring Andrew Moffat on this evening's Panorama, as well as Peter Tatchell...

JackyHolyoake · 15/07/2019 21:01

Was there any talk in the Panorama programme of the parents who are concerned that their children are being told they can change sex [that a girl can become a boy and that a boy can become a girl]or did it restrict itself to the homophobia angle?

Laterthanyouthink · 15/07/2019 21:09

I didn't see it right from the beginning but what I did see it was all about the clash of religious beliefs with the U.K. law on same sex relationships.

JackyHolyoake · 15/07/2019 21:25

Thanks, Later, I'll check it out on iPlayer tomorrow. There is more to this story than just same-sex relationships, and the media is choosing to ignore it.

Laterthanyouthink · 15/07/2019 21:26

Even taking the programme at face value, why do 5 year olds need to be taught this at all?

Because despite what they say, they want to make sure they get the state approved POV presented to the children before they are old enough to look at it from a rational or informed POV.
