I don't agree with parts of it, but it does seem pretty reasoned from a very mainstream media source. Sorry if it's be discussed before, just back from holiday (where I wore my adult human female t shirt).

Good article. A lot of comments but it looks like you have to be logged in to see them. Does anyone know what the general feeling in the comments is?

DpWm · 15/07/2019 08:54

Comments mostly along the lines of "These gays are showing off much" a few sensible ones about T being a completely different thing to LGB so they should part their ways etc.

the Scotsman comments are always pisspoor. They arent even witty pisspoor - although I imagine the authors think themselves incredibly original. I think they are teenagers who've just discovered Bodybuilding.com and dont have the intellect to replicate the wit. Its the only excuse I can think of.

The Scotsman journalists must despair about their own futures if thats the quality of the readership.

Lumene · 15/07/2019 09:35

Below the line comments on online news are almost universally pisspoor no matter what the subject or which newspaper.

and another small minority oppose gender recognition reform.

Not true the figures for this don’t stack up.

It was ok but there were lots of gems in there like

“But it’s time we stopped shouting, and started listening, and speaking to each other respectfully. People shouldn’t be defined by their sexuality or their genitals, it’s not really how I define myself – I’m Annie. That’s enough. It would be good to get to a place where everyone feels that way.”

OvaHere · 15/07/2019 10:38

Thanks for the feedback re comments. I agree comment sections are terrible overall. The only decent one seems to be The Times on this subject and I suspect that is in part due to posters from MN. Grin

Grin yes I think you may be right Ova.

“As someone who is a ‘butch lesbian’ I am more anxious than ever that because of anti-trans rhetoric I will be challenged when I go into public toilets, or am in the gym changing room. That’s what this gender policing has done for lesbians like me.”

Coupled with this thread that was doing the rounds on Twitter recently, where a woman’s wife, who presents as butch, was recently told when using the women’s loos that she was in the wrong toilet. This now makes her anxious and is, apparently, is all the fault of gender critical people.

Nevermind that the GC position is that of course butch lesbians should use the women’s toilets, because they’re female. It's about your sex, not what you're wearing or how you wear your hair. Simple.

How have these folks managed to get this so arse about face? What is it that these folks fundamentally don’t understand? Seriously, this stuff has me banging my head in exasperated frustration.
