Mark Di Stefano @markdistef
Why’d you change it guys?

(BBC News — one of the most important news organisations in the world — has got to be better than deleting tweets, changing headlines/frames without explanation to readers. It’s pathetic)

Rachael Krishnan @Rachaelkrishnan
Corrections too 👀

Mark Di Stefano @markdistef
Yep and they do it all the time without disclaimer

Why did the BBC decide that being a lesbian hero wasn't a headline they were happy with?

Even flipping pink news is on board with this one!

“Lesbian” is becoming frequently associated with terfism apparently, according to many twitterers.

Bespin · 14/07/2019 13:01

love Megan really supportive trans inclusive lesbian ally.

Sux2buthen · 14/07/2019 13:04

I think she's fantastic

Michelleoftheresistance · 14/07/2019 13:09

After bafflement about the refusing to serve women wearing t shirts with the word 'lesbian' on it at the National Theatre, I read around trying to find some grain of reason why.

Apparently the polite term is 'queer' now; and you should call yourself a 'queer woman'. If you use the word lesbian, you are specifically (apparently) declaring that you exclude people born male from your sexual orientation (duh?) which is some kind of sin against (something) and you shall be cast out and refused drinks and threatened with rape and other inclusive, loving, intersectional and progressive stuff like that.

There are no eye rolls big enough.

DpWm · 14/07/2019 13:56

Weird.
It's like there's some sort of lesbian erasure or something...

BickerinBrattle · 14/07/2019 14:07

Believe me, with our polarized politics in the US, Rapinoe has NO choice but to say she’d love to compete with TW, not if she wants the lucrative endorsement contracts that will make her a millionaire.

To say anything gender critical in the US automatically puts one on the side of Trump. To be on the side of Trump is to be in favor of children in concentration camps.

Americans are horribly guilty of assuming everYone else’s politics are or should be like ours.

Please don’t make the mistake of assuming that what’s happening wrt to genderism is anything like the situation in the U.K.

The amount of space GC feminists have in this country even to ask questions is less than a millimeter wide.

TheInebriati · 14/07/2019 14:09

The second one sounds more like woke code than a newspaper headline.

MIdgebabe · 14/07/2019 14:11

SInce the trans community cannot agree if transwomen are women or men, I would be careful about using the term trans inclusive. It may mean different things to different people

I think many of us are also transinclsuive... trans people should not face discrimination or violence. They should have the opportunity to participate fully in life. But that should not require an increase in discrimination and violence to women and it should not reduce the opport7niyy for women to fully participate in life. It should also not require that transpeople become so deluded that they end up dying as a result of incorrect medical treatment. Indeed ideally transpeople should be able to live as themselves without any lifelong medicalisation

Bespin · 14/07/2019 14:14

Well she very clearly supports trans children.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 14/07/2019 14:14

So weird

What’s wrong with saying she’s a lesbian?

DpWm · 14/07/2019 14:16

Well she very clearly supports trans children
Does she also support homosexual children?

Bespin · 14/07/2019 14:17

yes.

BernardBlacksWineIcelolly · 14/07/2019 14:20

Well she very clearly supports trans children

Maybe someone should send her a link to today’s Mail on Sunday article. People need to be clear about what some people mean when they talk about supporting gender questioning children

Fraggling · 14/07/2019 14:20

I find the first headline awful.

Can a pink haired lesnian be a role model

Or whatever it says

Why is this a question!? Of course she fucking can.

Like can a woman be head of nasa, or something. Insulting.

I can't imagine a headline about a successful sporting male questioning whether he can be a role model based on his appearance and sexuality.

Can a black man with long hair really be a role model?

Yeah how does that sound.

MIdgebabe · 14/07/2019 14:36

Well tbh, I could say I support trans children. Truthfully,

I just don’t believe that most girls identifying as trans today are anything of the sort. I strongly suspect a strong and unhealthy social factor is dominant.

On the other hand I think most humans do really fall under the trans umbrella of non binary.
