Justine Greening Supporting Changes to the GRA

Not sure if there's a Justine thread already but I just saw an interview with her in this week's Grazia and thought I'd share.

I was particularly Hmm about this non-sequitur of a response re: changing the GRA:

"Some critics have said it risks endangering women's rights, but it is vital that changes are dealt with sensitively."

"But"? Don't you mean "and" Justine? Although it's not even about "sensitive" changes, love, as much as there's a direct conflict of rights.

Screenshot of the full relevant bit of the interview below (of course she mentions "transphobia" multiple times).

If Justine is your MP perhaps worth booking a meeting with her.

Bloody hell. This makes for depressing reading.

There’s not a lack of understanding at all. We are all very capable of understanding exactly what all this means and we don’t like it Justine.

I was very surprised to see this pretty GC editorial in Grazia a few weeks ago. Hopefully lots of readers will recognise Justine Greening's comments as patronising 'nothing to see here' whitewash and see right through them.

I saw that one too AbsintheFriends - went on Twitter and interestingly it's one of the few columns Polly didn't tweet with a link. But good for her for sticking her head - if only the very top of it - over the parapet.

It doesn’t say in that way it will be updated though does it? There’s plenty of tweaks that wouldn’t be self-ID. It’s just nice sounding, meaningless words in regards to that.

"There's a lack of understanding about what being transgender is about..."

Yep. Average person on the Putney omnibus would assume it involved some sort of medical intervention: Surgery, Hormones, Psychiatry at the very least.

OnThePutneyOmnibus · 12/07/2019 10:40

Justine Greening is my MP. I have emailed her (before I saw this thread) to say I have concerns about women's rights and services, and about medical interventions with young people who may not be mature enough to understand the full implications. I have asked for clarification on where she stands on this.
She has always replied to my emails in the past, so looking forward to see what she has to say.

I've seen Polly Vernon stick her neck out a few times with GC comments. She also wrote one of the most sensible columns I've seen about Brexit. I don't think she gets the credit she deserves (and yes I know she's been rude about mothers but so has Julie Bindel).
