Having been called a cunt by a lovely man and then being told to fuck myself with a cactus by a charming transwoman I am here for a bit of civilised discussion as I need a break from it all. Twitter, eh?

Hi OP, I deleted my Twatter account some time ago and I'm so much better off mentally. I still get into rows on FB sometimes but it's not so much of a pile on when I do, usually just one or two disagreeing and I report any bad language or threats straight away, even when they are not aimed at me. I don't want an echo chamber so appreciate the debate in FB, I just found the rapid fire on Twatter too much, with that and all the misogyny and terf blocking it was just tedious.

I don't feel I miss out as I can still read threads from Twitter posted here - the JY court case has been a good one - but I miss out on following some GC accounts but it's not enough to ever make me return.

MN is more informative anyway as links shared here are from all over and some are very specific sources and you get a mix of views, I'm sticking around even if I have to be careful with language sometimes.

I got permanently banned from Twitter by engaging directly with JY on a thread he was going on and on and on demanding "I am a woman I am one" I replied "No you're not" and was permanently banned in a few short hours.
Twitter is run by TRAs who have friends high up at Facebook/Google etc. It's a total boys club.

The comments telling women to "fuck themselves with a cactus" "I'm going to kill your family" etc all remain. No action taken. Doesn't break guidelines. But "you're not a woman" is a comment worthy of permanent banning.

I have to really limit my time there. And I've stopped engaging with TRAs on there too - a waste of time akin to banging your head against a brick wall. I do look in to see what the gc feminists are saying though.

Agreed that it is a cesspit of misogyny. Pretty shocked by the huge rise in MAP accounts since I joined it too. Free to operate however they like with no risk of suspension it seems.

I need time away from it because I end up arguing about very important things with very stupid people - no one wins and my mental health suffers like so many other women on there. It is utterly relentless and grim.

Some of the pretty grotesque fetishy porn shown openly, often without even a warning is grim - there are v young people (minors) on twitter. I mean, whatever floats your boat, but it shouldn't be so open, or easy to access.

I'm on a suspension and while I miss some of the fab GC posters, I can cope without some middle aged nappy wearing bloke or a pimply teenager in his bedroom calling me a T*f cunt (sorry, not sure if T*f is still banned here).

I do miss finding things out as they happen - there is so much that we do not hear about in the msm on trans/GC matters.

MN has always been brilliant for that though - it's where I first found out that there were some serious issues about to impact women so badly and I will always be grateful to the fantastic women on here for that.

I only use Twitter now to follow some local news ( cat lost, what’s happening to empty shop in main street etc) and to get some kind of up to date info on our local trains ( vs their lying app). Peace reigns.
