The Epstein case - how many famous men had sex with young children?

Annasgirl · 09/07/2019 10:46

Is anyone else horrified at the men involved in this? I mean I thought having sex with young girls / boys (I mean very young) was a proclivity of a very small number of men (mostly, before any but women do it too people come on to correct me).

Is it that men who succeed in something are so inured to their own invincibility that they think they can get away with anything or is there a correlation between the ruthlessness needed to succeed in these areas and sexual attraction to younger people?

I'm just musing to myself here - but if even half the names mentioned are involved then this really is not a proclivity of a small number of men, it is endemic.

This current AIBU thread is relevant here, showing both how widespread this male behaviour is in ordinary circles, and how many girls it happens to.

Also, remember Rotherham etc. And think how much easier things must be for rich men. It's hardly as if being rich and powerful automatically puts them on a higher moral plane and prevents them from being lustful predators. Or makes the lustful predator any less attractive to the impressionable victim. Probably a lot easier for the rich and powerful to do it and get away with it. Angry

Thank you - had not found that thread.

Nope, it's made out to be, but it's really not. Power corrupts, the more power someone has, the less boundaries there are.

Most of Hollywood's directors/producers.

Presidents and at least one Royal.

NotBadConsidering · 09/07/2019 11:15

Let’s see what sort of plea deal he makes. Could be very revealing.

HowlsMovingBungalow · 09/07/2019 11:21

He's already saying his victims were prostitutes.

The man is a utter piece of scum.

I hope this time he actually gets jailed instead of 6 days a week house arrest.

sakura184 · 09/07/2019 11:23

It's in the news all the time, men raping babies and toddlers

ReturnofSaturn · 09/07/2019 11:25

Sometimes I get a horrible feeling it's something a lot of men would do if there wasn't the stigma.

AngelsSins · 09/07/2019 11:29

Can we please, please, please call this what it is: rape? Referring to it as “having sex with” makes it sound consensual.

Annasgirl · 09/07/2019 11:33

Sorry yes of course it is rape - honestly I was afraid to write the headline as it is so awful I thought it would be pulled.

Like ReturnofSaturn says, I think there are a large number of men who have a sexual interest in children. Many of these are deterred by the laws and the stigma. But once these are removed, look what happens. For example the explosion in the number of men looking at images of the sexual abuse of children who will have a belief they won't be caught and believe they are anonymous. Or the case of Epstein, confident that what he does can be covered up and if it isn't, then confident that his money will buy him immunity from the law.

nauticant · 09/07/2019 11:47

Once there's an ability to cover up, confidence that the law can be made to look the other way, opportunity, and entitlement, then putting that together with a latent tendency, which I think is common but often suppressed, I start to wonder how prevalent the abuse of children must be among rich and powerful men.

HermioneMakepeace · 09/07/2019 11:50

I remember reading on here a while ago about some island that rich people could go to to abuse children. I thought it was bonkers, but it looks like it may be true. The island belongs to Epstein.

DpWm · 09/07/2019 11:55

In the Philippines, Hermione?
I remember that

RolyWatts · 09/07/2019 12:12

It comes as no surprise to me. Poor women and children are regarded as nothing more than live stock. The way his case was handled is dispicable.

BluebonicPlague · 09/07/2019 12:15

The Miami Herald is going to town on this and worth following if you have an interest in seeing corruption brought to justice. But please be careful of repeating any allegations on here - remember UK libel laws are some of the harshest in the world, and one of the people allegedly involved comes from a family renowned for using libel laws to shut down any criticism or investigation.

I read an article about Bill Clinton's flights on Epstein's so-called "Lolita jet" (the phrase stuck in my memory) several years ago. It's well known and very unpleasant that they have only chosen to take action now.

Bill Clinton flew on it dozens of times and everyone knew. No one gave a fuck because he was a charismatic Democrat.

👏
This term ' having sex' ( with a minor)is widely used in the media. It devalues the severity of the crime. Same with the term ' child prostitute'.

Annasgirl · 09/07/2019 12:23

Do you all not think it's awful how women were involved in this too - I mean, how can a woman knowingly traffic young children for sex? I know I am being daftly naive as this has been happening since the Stone Age, but still, why do women collude? Also not saying they are as bad as the men who abused, but just reading that Miami article on the woman involved, how can she?

MockerstheFeManist · 09/07/2019 12:25

More than one or two beknighted pop stars you can think of, who seem to get a free pass.

Frank Sinatra who abused the underage Natalie Wood.

But please spare a thought for the Glitter Band, who despite being entirely innocent have seen their records banned for no other reason that the insistence of the tabloid press not to use Paul Gadd's real name.

HermioneMakepeace · 09/07/2019 12:25

@DpWm It is Little Saint James Island.

RedToothBrush · 09/07/2019 12:30

The US Attorney General has recused himself from the case because he once worked for a law firm that represented Epstein.

So this is Trump's Attorney General distancing himself. Remembering that Trump was a close friend of Epstein too.

This is going to get messy quickly.
