Event tackling fgm goes woke

This has made me so cross. I've been sent a link from a friend to an event which is raising awareness and funds to stop fgm. I really want to support anything which tackles this issue, it's something I've cared passionately about for many years.

The whole event is based around 'inclusion' and 'broadening definitions of what it means to be a woman.' Fucking outrageous.

I'd still like to go but not sure if the whole evening will make me feel like sticking pins in my eyes. What is fgm if not an issue of female biology and the worst kind of misogyny? I'm so disappointed the organisers don't understand that.

Why on earth would the woke brigade need to hold a fundraiser to stop fgm? Surely they just tell all those little girls - about to be mutilated - to identify as boys, and the mutilation will magically stop?
Sarcasm apart, OP, I’d go along and use it as a chance to educate them on sex based oppression. Sex, not bloody gender identity.

So male people are allowed to use the word "woman" to define themselves as evidenced by the first sentence above. No womxn for them.

But actual girls and women who are at risk of FGM? Nah. You're different - you're womxn.

Oh FFS. The clue is in the name 'FGM'. It's an atrocity committed specifically against females not 'womxn' whatever the heck those are.

'people of different ages, cultural backgrounds, genders and nationalities' should most certainly all work together to end FGM but the woke should bloody well stop appropriating the very real oppression of females, perpetrated because of their female biology.

It reads to me as if it's been written by different people.

The bit that popchyk copied, reads very different to the final paragraph:

I hope the event is run by the people who wrote the above, and keep the focus on women and girls effected.

Isn't 'womxn' trans exclusive anyway - surely it excludes transmen who could be victims of FGM?

This is an issue about the inescapable reality of being a female in extreme patriarchal cultures, not 'identity'.

I think one of the things that makes me so angry is it reads as if they're going to share stories of fgm survivors on the night. Can you imagine showing up to share your intimate story of abuse or surviving the most extreme forms of sexism (even if that isn't fgm) and being told that being a woman can involve having a penis and is something related to how you feel. It makes my blood boil. It's so disrespectful.

An event to raise funds to help stop FGM absolutely should not be doing all the ridiculous waffly 'woman is just feeling' nonsense. jesus christ, its possibly the worst event to attach that nonsense to as FGM is obviously specifically about misogyny and only happens to female people. Hence fucking FGM.

I have seen discussions of this actually become 'people with penises are circumcised without consent' and that, as if its the same thing. While I do disagree with shopping parts off babies for anything other than medical reasons, male circumcision is nothing at all like FGM.
