These pictures come courtesy of the wonderful Brie Jontry of 4thwavenow.

Her Twitter feed (am I allowed to link?) is the source and discussion. Looks like this "physician" is in Canada?

I hate the term top surgery.

It's not a mole removal it's a double mastectomy. You will wake up with large incisions and drainage tubes and there's a chance your nipples may turn black and die.

And afterwards you will still be biologically female...

All I want for xmas is a hospital stay???

They should not be making light of major surgery.

DpWm · 08/07/2019 07:30

That's disgusting.
Basically having a laugh about mutilating healthy young women.
What a horrid cunt.

Bespin · 08/07/2019 07:37

it's not surprising that you feel this way. This is not for you and the people it is for who want top surgery feel a lot differently about there breat tissue than you do. Alot of trans people make jokes like this one as they have a totally different way of looking at there bodies than you do and that's ok, we don't expect you to understand that point of view.

NotBadConsidering · 08/07/2019 07:43

Oh Bespin (sigh)...

Can you please explain how trivialising major surgery that permanently alters someone’s body to appease their mental distress is in any way appropriate.

Making it jokey, a bit of a laugh, talking about it being a simple Christmas gift is exactly what trans people DON’T need. They need the harsh realities clearly pointed out. And it’s especially worse when someone is profiteering from it.

Chickenish · 08/07/2019 07:53

And we are still (I think) in the times where someone says “I can’t cope with having arms!” and their mental distress is dealt with rather than having their arms cut off...

SarahTancredi · 08/07/2019 07:58

bespin

Then why do they never call it what it is?

They call Lupron puberty blockers when its cancer drugs and double mastectomies are top surgery.

If you cant say it then should you be doing it?

SophoclesTheFox · 08/07/2019 07:58

By that logic, how would you know, bespin? It’s not for you either, is it?

You’re so very busy telling women to stay in our lanes, you don’t notice how far you drifted out of yours.

NotBadConsidering · 08/07/2019 07:59

And can you imagine a surgeon posting a picture on instagram with the amputated arm?

“Hello, look what I removed today! 💪🦵”

Bespin · 08/07/2019 08:07

no its not aimed at me either, I can show you the trans woman jokes if you like there pritty grewsome too. the reason we do that is because this is major life changing and scary stuff that we are doing and honestly we are usually scared or even teriffied about it for a lot of reason, anyone would be we use jokes to make it less so and to make it managable. as I always say none of this is easy and none of us do it lightly. you don't have to understand this because you don't have to face it, but please understand that we do.

HorsewithnoRegretsNonJeNeRegre · 08/07/2019 08:08

...we don't expect you to understand that point of view.

Who are "we"?

Which group of people are you a part of and seem to be speaking for?

SarahTancredi · 08/07/2019 08:09

But do you think it's right the drs make light of it.

How can you ensure theres not an unhealthy about of disconnect or understanding what's going on if you are busy posing in Santa hats?

Surely youd want your dr to take things seriously ?

SarahTancredi · 08/07/2019 08:14

And as for "goodboys"
Well what's he implying? That the good trans people get the surgery?

That you can actually change sex?

A dr should not be lying to their patients.

53rdWay · 08/07/2019 08:15

the people it is for who want top surgery feel a lot differently about there breat tissue than you do.

Are you so sure? I loathed mine for years. I used to fantasise about cutting off my breasts and hips. I don’t any more, for which I am glad, but it took me a long time to get there and someone promising to magic them away would have been very very appealing to me back then.

SophoclesTheFox · 08/07/2019 08:18

Oh give over, bespin, with this “you couldn’t possibly understand”.

I’ve had organs removed, and if the surgeon had put a photo of him holding similar organs that he’d removed all over Instagram, I would be straight on the phone to his professional body.

This is basic stuff. You should want the best, most compassionate, most skilled medical treatment for trans people. I wonder why you don’t? Interesting to note that it’s surgery relating to women that is funny, while surgery relating to men is “pritty grewsome”. Female biology is just so funny and silly, eh?

GassyAss · 08/07/2019 08:18

I think it’s disgusting to make light of double mastectomy.
Women with breast cancer certainly don’t call it ‘top surgery’. They only have it to save their lives and the psychological affects of losing their breasts are well documented.

SophoclesTheFox · 08/07/2019 08:21

There is also a marked difference between gallows humour from a scared patient, and what’s shown in the OP, which is nothing like that.

Babdoc · 08/07/2019 08:38

If that surgeon was in the U.K., I’d be referring him to the GMC for bringing the profession into disrepute.

DuMondeB · 08/07/2019 08:42

Crikey.

A US based surgeon recently got in trouble for photographing a MtF patient’s genitals cut open and arranged in the shape of heart, then posting it on Instagram.

Said patient was otherwise obscured by the green operating theatre sheet.

Bespin is correct, I have no understanding why people want to remove healthy body parts, but still I think everyone deserves the dignity of not having their medical waste/surgical sites documented for the ‘Gram.

GeorgeFayne · 08/07/2019 08:47

Bespin

I get that I don't understand the difficulty and pain of gender dysphoria. If trans individuals choose to manage their feelings with humor, that is fully up to them.

This individual is a PHYSICIAN. A surgeon, making a joke about the permanent removal of breasts in someone who is suffering from a mental health disorder. This is beyond unprofessional. As a fellow physician, I am truly disgusted and filled with righteous anger. He is laughing at their misery while he turns a tidy profit.

He should lose his license to practice medicine for good. If he were in the US, I would report him to his state board of medicine yesterday.

Sometimes I wish I believed in hell...

Jeez Louise

I hope the original owners of that medical waste get shares in any profits he manages to drum up by posting parts of their bodies on the internet

That's just it isnt it. These pictures show exactly what it is all about. And while the ER deals with infections and friends and family deal with the aftermath/recovery etc these guys are spending xmas in the Bahamas on your breast money.

Yet somehow they are still the good guys. Providing all this affirmation to trans people.

While activists have you all convinced we hate you , actually we just want the you to receive the best treatment. The right treatment. From people who are prepared to look into and research every part of it..good and bad. To give you facts and truth about what its really all about.and to ensure that should you undertake this path it really is the right decision.

We dont make money from this. On fact it's the opposite. Women have lost jobs friends family etc fighting for people to see what's really going on.

These drs are not the heroes. You are nothing more than advertising and a holiday to them.

Some people arriving with the most spectacularly crass contributions, I see.

I'm an ex cancer patient. We had gallows humour between ourselves and it helped us get through.

We did not have consultants who put crass and vulgar images of our procedures on social media because that would be appropriation of our coping mechanism and a gross dereliction of their duty of care.

But I've long since stopped expecting an actual understanding of the underlying dynamics from certain posters.
