Child and adolescent safeguarding issue in Langley BC

Saw this whilst trawling twitter. I was shocked by the age range of 12 -24 and that they won't let parents into the swim event. Rose of dawn speculated about the appeal of such events to a well known tampon fetishist.

Truly unbelievable how safe guarding can be disregarded in the name of progressive inclusivity. Unsurprisingly there are tweets, in response, that allude to PIE.

I'm posting really just to add to the record of these events so we can plot the rate at which this is becoming normalized. It seems to have been gathering pace and I can't help but wonder if twitters tolerance of MAP accounts and the silencing of concerned or dissenting women is a contributing factor.

How do we stop this?

Oh for fucks sake

What is going on

TurboTeddy · 12/07/2019 10:19

What is going on
Appreciate its a rhetorical question but for the lurkers......
It's the normalisation of sexualising children in plain sight. I'll leave you to think about the possible motives.

Canada is like that bloke who lives opposite the Westboro Church who painted his entire house as a rainbow. If you had a racist, sexist, homophobic, violent misogynist living next door, you'd be anxious to separate yourselves!

The problem is that the actual issues; youth LGBT homelessness, missing and murdered indigenous women, escalating violence against women, children in care, aren't being addressed because they are a bit hard. Whiffling on about inclusion is cheap and easy. JT is a master in making himself look good while doing nothing to actually change anything important.

Goosefoot · 12/07/2019 17:03

The general patriotism of Canada right now is all tied up with inclusion, and it's why these kinds of things go further.

For whatever reason, in most of the country among the leadership, this is true. Not among the population as a whole, usually. On the odd occasion you see something published on these issues, like the CBC with the Drak Kids documentary, there are always plenty of people saying how crazy it is. Most people either don't know, or don't believe it when you tell them.

And it probably has got a lot to do with going in the opposite direction from the Americans.

But the whole political sphere has been taken over by identity politics of one kind or another. Just different versions on the left and right. Those who might oppose it have been completely shut up by being labeled as bigots. They no longer have a voice.

I work in the education sector in Vancouver. Safeguarding is not taken anywhere nearly as seriously as it is in the U.K. And like another poster earlier said, when interviewed for posts, none have ever asked any questions concerning the welfare of the students (granted most, not all, of them are of adult age)

Recently on our towns fb page, someone suggested a rainbow crosswalk. All of those who politely said they either didn’t think it was a good use of funds/didn’t see why it was needed, were automatically branded as “bigots” by a large number of responders.

In one case, a person who had said it wasn’t necessary, was called out by someone who had obviously visited his personal fb page and found out who he worked for, “does XXX know that they have a bigot working for them?”

Incredibly concerning.

Goosefoot · 12/07/2019 18:44

Oh, I have seen the crosswalk thing here too. It's interesting the extent to which people think it is a good idea for the state, or in this case the local government, to really push hard on what might be considered a particular political perspective.

Mrstwiddle · 12/07/2019 18:55

Agreed! But, you know it does worry me, I don’t feel like I can add comments on these type of fb posts to say what I think because there’s a real concern that these so called liberals will find out who more about me (small town-easy to do) and cause problems.

A particular concern would be them contacting my employers, I work for two different organisations one of which is very woke. It’s just very frustrating and increasingly I find myself wishing I lived on the other side of the border.

I work in the education sector in Vancouver. Safeguarding is not taken anywhere nearly as seriously as it is in the U.K.

The UK has a world leading safeguarding framework, far above what most countries (even the naice progressive ones) have.

And the reason we have that framework is because we’ve had some utterly awful things happen and learned from them.

A certain Langley resident has started lobbying for the swim to be reinstated but with ‘the parameters changed’ to be just 12+. Not 12-24.

So no limit on the age of paedophiles who can get access...

Dangerfloof · 12/07/2019 19:14

This event has been held previous years. Forgive this bit for making sod all sense, menopause brain,
The stretch* theory, like Amazon used to end up somehow making self employed delivery drivers pay Amazon when they were off sick.
This swim thing previously was iirc 15 years to 19 years and before that may well have been even smaller a gap.
So some of the organisers have slowly stretched the age gap, hoping no one would realise how far its gone and as it's been held no problems previously and hoping no one would actually think about the implications. It's been a long term plan for sure. Hopefully its come unstuck now

  • I dont think it's called the stretch theory but for the life of me I cant think what it is.
Mrstwiddle · 12/07/2019 19:22

That’s interesting Dangerfloof and makes sense...I wonder why is was only picked up this year.
