Press photographers banned from pride because of last year’s Get The L Out protest

Pride London have banned photographers, apart from their own self-appointed ones, from covering Pride.

There is a long discussion about this, with the usual woke bro comments, on the NUJ’s FB page which I can’t c&p for privacy reasons but the gist seems to be that no non-pride photographers will be allowed inside cordons, including many gay, lesbian and bi photographers because of the ‘incursions’ last year.

One of the photographers says “You cannot deny press freedom because it interferes with your corporate image.”

There is a response from the NUJ here www.nuj.org.uk/news/the-nuj-expresses-disappointment-at-pride-in-londons-treatment/

I am trying really hard not to find significant symbolism in the fact that the one close up picture of a woman on the BBC article shows her face covered in a rainbow niqab, which many of us see as a pretty gross misogynistic item of clothing.

I'm not doing too well at that.

OvaHere · 06/07/2019 23:51

Amazing! Nobody has called this guy any abusive names yet for this statement. I wonder if a lesbian could put out a similar sentiment with no pushback? I think we know the answer.

Ovahere, is it just me feeling completely disorientated by Pride being an almost perfect vehicle to showcase the complete hatred of women coursing through our culture almost unchecked? I keep pinching myself to check I'm not hallucinating.

OvaHere · 07/07/2019 00:08

I suppose that's the thing, it's the perfect cover for all sorts. Reading through the twitter hashtag I think most people go along for the party and celebration and are mostly unaware or very minimally informed of political undercurrents going on.

I saw a tweet from the National Nursing & Midwifery Association who were there marching and thought surely they must be a little bit 'terfy' given the nature of the job? I'm almost surprised a word like Midwifery was allowed there! Grin

OccasionalKite · 07/07/2019 00:09

It looks like a parade of men, celebrating their extensive and very various expressions of diversity of male sexuality, as presented by loads of males, men!

It is totally focused on male sexuality, in its very various, many forms.

There's sod all there for women, though.

FannyCann · 07/07/2019 00:14

I notice all the photos of Sadiq Khan show him in a plain white shirt, not a rainbow in sight. I think there's a word for someone who likes to be seen to be supporting something whilst being careful to avoid being seen to be supporting that thing.

OneEndedStick · 07/07/2019 00:23

It's basically Penis Pride (plus a few Aidens with aspirations, and some Good Girl devoted believers)

OccasionalKite · 07/07/2019 01:16

Pride should come clean about its current affiliation.

It is currently a celebration of male sexuality, with all its kinks.

Where is women's life experience in all of this?

Hi there, long term lesbian lurker here, was at pride today and thought I'd add an interesting(?) titbit.

I was actually part of a group that was marching today, we were more towards the back, since our group was pretty small. the whole march took about 3 hours from beginning to end, due to the number of participants and the fact that we kept stopping for crowd control. By the time we got to the finishing point I got the unpleasant surprise of seeing Amy Challenor jump in front of us draped in the trans flag like a cape to take a series of photos. Don't know if they were there with the libdem crowd, but it was a pretty sour ending to the march.

Also caught sight of a few of the TWAW lot also a few signs that said "Trans people to the front!" Hmm held by a bunch of people that looked to be in their teens or early to mid 20's, including one hairy faced bloke. Besides that though it was mostly a sea of rainbow flags and I'm pretty happy to say that I encountered minimal fetish gear, although again, our group was further in the back so I dont know if that counts for much.

Pride seems to be officially about male sexuality, and fetishes this year. Kind of thought this would be kept quiet for a while but it seems its now its all coming together. And still, even with blokes playing/dressing as with puppies and children sitting with erections, people do not see that fucking huge problems in this 'we should be proud of our kinks' and 'its a good idea to practice fetishes around children, if you say no you are anti lgbt' way of thinking. Hmm Gay people fought for a long long time to be not seen as feishists. It is homophobic to suggest being gay is nothing but a fetish IMO. But...recently there seems to have been a slide backwards, both in womens rights, and gay peoples progress socially. Its now officially fine to be lesbiphobic, and being gay is transphobic unless you will consider fucking the opposite sex. I honestly do not understand how this has all happened (and how quickly..), when stuff appeared to be going well.

here's an older, and rather beautiful photo of lesbians at pride posted by Kathleen Stock on twitter. Looking at it makes me happy and sad at the same time

Ooh look who it is!

"I see Aimee Challenor is still at the forefront of trans activism, marching with @stonewalluk and @Mermaids_Gender at #PrideInLondon

Funny how lesbians aren't welcome but good old Aimee takes pride of place.... t.co/DDu4WvEuqo"

The entryism and mainstreaming puts me in mind of a larger scale version of the Hazel Ascot Appreciation Society - Hazel was the "British Shirley Temple".++ Does anyone else recall the 2002 series, The hunt for Britain's paedophiles ?

They call it 'The Hobby', a term to describe the persistent abuse of young children by paedophiles. It is also the title of a booklet of rules and guidelines. It reads like a paedophiles catechism - the dos and don'ts of child abuse.

It is handwritten and was circulated to members of a paedophile ring who first befriended each other as young adult members of The Hazel Ascot Appreciation Society (Hazel Ascot was a British child star in the 1940s). The Hobby was written by the society's photographer, Julian Levene, a convicted paedophile. It tells members: 'Do enjoy the hobby and be proud to enjoy it! Do talk to the hobby at every opportunity. Chat it up - make love to their minds! Do get them to love you and then withdraw your love before you move in; they will know the price of getting that love back.'

www.theguardian.com/society/2002/may/26/childrensservices.childprotection

++ Though originally a genuine appreciation society, by the late 1990s [The Hazel Ascot Appreciation Society] had become a front for a network of paedophiles.[5] In 2002, a series of arrests were made of members of the society.[6] According to the police, paedophiles "used the fan club as a cover to communicate with each other via the internet." The police emphasised that Ascot was not aware of or associated in any way with the activities of the gang, but "though she has nothing to do with these deviants, she has become an icon for paedophiles."

complaint submitted to the BBC about their adult baby pic

according to NSPCC guidelines

learning.nspcc.org.uk/media/1194/online-child-sexual-abuse-images.pdf

As a society, we cannot tolerate adults engaging in role play as children for the sexual gratification of other adults

I mean I can't quite believe I have to point this out to the BBC, but they are clear breach of NSPCC guidelines here.

complained about the complete lack of lesbians in their pictures while I was at it

EverardDigby · 07/07/2019 15:29

I made exactly the same points in my complaint Bernard

Interesting to contrast this stated need for a safe space for gay men (which I broadly agree with) with this current AIBU thread
