Press photographers banned from pride because of last year’s Get The L Out protest

Pride London have banned photographers, apart from their own self-appointed ones, from covering Pride.

There is a long discussion about this, with the usual woke bro comments, on the NUJ’s FB page which I can’t c&p for privacy reasons but the gist seems to be that no non-pride photographers will be allowed inside cordons, including many gay, lesbian and bi photographers because of the ‘incursions’ last year.

One of the photographers says “You cannot deny press freedom because it interferes with your corporate image.”

There is a response from the NUJ here www.nuj.org.uk/news/the-nuj-expresses-disappointment-at-pride-in-londons-treatment/

Amazing how scary a small group of lesbians saying they're not sexually attracted to people with penises is.

Wonder if Janice Turner or James Kirkup will pick up on this?

FormerMediocreMale · 05/07/2019 16:13

Ok so vast majority of population has a phone with a camera on it, many people myself included have digital slr cameras. How are they going to stop random people sending photos to the press? Do they know by sight every press photographer?

This says to me there is something to hide and press will hopefully go incognito and then report on it.

Juells · 05/07/2019 16:14

They might be a bit worried, as well, about photos of furries and kinks making it into the media. At the moment doggies on leashes and drag kids are showing only on twitter. On the front page of the DM or Telegraph they might raise a few eyebrows.

PotholePalace · 05/07/2019 16:28

So journalists and photographers are able to report from war zones in countries ruled by dictators but banned from a peaceful festival in their own capital city?

ChattyLion · 05/07/2019 16:39

Don’t massive marches and stuff like this have to have permission from the local Authority (Westminster council) and London Mayor?
And Pride London is sponsored by Tesco and loads of other sponsors? Wouldn’t something like this need to involve everyone’s explicit agreements to limit press freedom- not just the Pride London charity that organises this day-so?

What are the organisers afraid of? What do the sponsors thinking that they are supporting?

Really sinister to limit press freedom. My first question would also be "what are they trying to hide." Of course, one answer would be "leather pups with erections around children".

Chickenish · 05/07/2019 16:58

zebras you really scared me. What the hell are people thinking of, leaving their children with these men? Angry

ChattyLion · 05/07/2019 17:11

For anyone not familiar with the pups reference: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/womens_rights/3619623-pup-play-fans-dance-for-children-at-pride

I rather think that Stonewall's slogan: "Acceptance without exception" may need to be changed some time soon, after Amanda Speilman's speech at the Stonewall conference today and the Pride London event this Saturday.

It's all beginning to unravel as more and more light is thrown on what Stonewall and its associates that comprise the Trans lobby are doing.

The question needs to be, why is taxpayers' money being given to the Trans Lobby via these so-called "LGBTQ etc" groups when none of them are representing anyone but the "TQ etc" and some, like Stonewall are even ostracising Lesbians?

AlwaysComingHome · 05/07/2019 18:02

Where there are protests there are counter-protests. They don’t want photos of burly baseball bat wielding transwomen ‘defending’ themselves against 60 year-olds armed only with dictionaries.

JaniceBattersby · 05/07/2019 23:06

*Any journalist worthy of the name should be asking “what are they trying to hide?”

I wonder if they can't afford to lose the advertising that is keeping the newspapers etc. alive?*

There is a very robust discussion going on among union members on this issue on the NUJ FB page. This affects a large number of gay and lesbian photographers who are fucking furious. There is a very distinct divide between advertising and editorial - ne’er the twain. I can assure you this is nothing to do with losing advertising.

The NUJ’s statement was weak and many journalists told them so.

They can’t stop people taking photos from the sidelines with SLRs but accredited press photographers have always had access to inside cordons and at the side of the parade so that they can get great pictures unimpeded by large crowds. It’s that access that’s being limited.

Anyway, it appears there’s been some movement on the issue www.pressgazette.co.uk/pride-london-organisers-u-turn-after-angry-press-photographers-banned-from-parade-route/

Interesting line in that article:
"The changes came after anti-trans protesters forced their way to the front of last year’s parade and handed out leaflets "

"Anti trans protesters" FFS they were lesbians - trying to point out how lesbians are being redefined and erased by the trans lobby. This is happening. We are being told that lesbians can have penises and objecting makes us "anti-trans" f**k off with this shit.

Come on journalists - earn your money.
Expose Pride for being the anti-lesbian, porn soaked nonsense that it is.

littlbrowndog · 05/07/2019 23:15

Yeah aspley exactly

littlbrowndog · 05/07/2019 23:15

They never said owt about trans.

LizzieSiddal · 05/07/2019 23:22

I’m glad they’ve done this. Pride and the people in charge are out of control and by banning the MS media they will attract far more attention that they ordinarily would have. Let’s hope this ridiculous decision raises a lot of questions.

LizzieSiddal · 05/07/2019 23:27

Apologies just seen they have backtracked, what a fiasco.

OldCrone · 05/07/2019 23:34

My first question would also be "what are they trying to hide."

Now that they have decided to let press photographers in after all, I hope some of them will be looking for this. Will it be like the one planned for Brighton in a couple of weeks, with a 'Fetish March'?

Erythronium · 05/07/2019 23:35

This journo didn't mince her words:

"it is a serious attack on press freedom that undermines the ability of journalists to carry out their work"

How to get journalists interested in a story - tell them they're not allowed to cover it. Own goal Pride.

FormerMediocreMale · 05/07/2019 23:37

Major own goal now they've done a u-turn Grin

LizzieSiddal · 05/07/2019 23:38

PT was on TV this week saying Pride was far too commercial and it needs to get back to what it was set up for.

SunsetBeetch · 06/07/2019 17:44

Aspley · 06/07/2019 18:04

@SunsetBeetch
Sickening isn't it.
Lesbians who wanted to defend their sexuality and right to say no have been excluded
Politicians don't care/realise what is going on but see fit to pose for crass publicity photos with fetishists.
It's embarrassing and upsetting in equal measure.

blueiris71 · 06/07/2019 18:09

I've seen photos of the puppy fetishists and the fuck terfs banners at the Pride March on the Daily Mail online.
Charming.
Not.
(and wtf this has to do with LGB rights and why fetishists are now tagging on to the LGBT lobby, I have no clue)

blueiris71 · 06/07/2019 18:10

it's a huge disgrace and people have either been utterly brainwashed (likely) or hellbent on proving their WOKE credentials

sackrifice · 06/07/2019 18:10

Ain't no party like a Pride Pup Party?

Jesus H Christ what a fuckwit.
