I've got a book about elves and pixies, I'll see if the local council need it to inform planning decisions...

Surely they should be using the law to inform their planning decisions...

A helpful diagram from Hines' book...

Wow that diagram is super offensive to intersex people! They are not a third fucking sex!

OldCrone · 28/06/2019 22:18

Sally Hines seems to think intersex = hermaphrodite.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 28/06/2019 22:24

I'm not sure that Hines actually thinks, at least not properly.

I find it terrifying that a city council would think her book should be used as some sort of guidance.

VickyEadie · 28/06/2019 22:27

That diagram merely shows how thick she is, to be honest.

A timely review in THES:
Susan Matthews is unimpressed by an attempt to rethink our understanding of biological sex, gender and identity

ThePurported · 28/06/2019 23:10

How embarrassing for them. Do they consult Nigel Lawson about climate resilience measures?

I was just getting into that and the article just stops. Is it an excerpt from her book?

EverardDigby · 29/06/2019 07:27

Isn't that diagram a bit binary?

Needmoresleep · 29/06/2019 07:49

Always. You need to register to read the review...which you can do for free.

Susan Matthews, with a GC background, is an interesting choice of reviewer. It was unlikely she would be impressed. A chance to get a different take on Hines' theories and arguments. Assuming Glasgow Life are up for an academic debate on gender theory (I assume not) this would provide some useful material.

OldCrone · 29/06/2019 08:19

The last sentence of the review.

This is a primer of postmodern dogma served up as scripture rather than a balanced introduction to a conflicted debate.

Not something that Glasgow Life should be using to inform policy.
