I don't know what's worse, the statement or how many likes it has garnered.

I'd say more but I'm likely to violate talk guidelines Angry

The problem was Julia Hartley-Brewer’s tweets. Ash Sarkar was being sarcastic. You should read the whole thread. Julia is disgusting

ScrimshawTheSecond · 24/06/2019 16:06

Sarkar is being sarky.

Or do you mean Harley-Brewer?

Outanabout · 24/06/2019 16:13

JHB is always very dismissive of women who claim to have been inappropriately touched or harassed. Because she's able to deal with it she thinks any woman who isn't is a wimp. Lack of empathy.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 24/06/2019 16:14

JHB is a nightmare.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/06/2019 16:15

Sorry both of them if I'm honest.

JHB's comments are far worse, but I don't think sarcasm plays out very well here from Ash.

Ash is a feminist and very against domestic violence. That you don’t get sarcasm is no reason to defend your ignorance. The only wrong post on that thread was Julias

SunsetBeetch · 24/06/2019 16:25

Yeah I can't stand Ash Sarkar, or her brand of "feminism" ( or her brand of leftism, for that matter), but I don't see anything wrong with this tweet. Clearly sarcasm.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 24/06/2019 16:27

My feelings exactly.

SunsetBeetch · 24/06/2019 16:34

HB is always very dismissive of women who claim to have been inappropriately touched or harassed. Because she's able to deal with it she thinks any woman who isn't is a wimp. Lack of empathy.

So she's the right wing version of the left wing women who don't have a problem with men in women's spaces.

Cwenthryth · 24/06/2019 16:35

Yup agree with the above, I’m not a fan of Sarkar at all, but it seems clear she’s being sarcastic there.

FloralBunting · 24/06/2019 16:41

JHB is devoid of empathy on this sort of topic. She's a strong, plain speaking woman, and like many women with that kind of personality, she doesn't always take the sympathetic route. I disagree with her very strongly on this issue.

Sarkar is, however, also tremendously selective about which woman's boundaries she is prepared to defend, so I'll be with holding fulsome praise for her tweet.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/06/2019 16:50

I'll fully admit I'm not a fan of either person here.

I'm not lacking the ability to understand sarcasm - as I said I didn't think it appropriate (but obviously others don't agree).

Agree FloralBunting

And I do get where you're coming from DeRigueur, it could have been phrased better.

nauticant · 24/06/2019 17:00

This is the second time recently I've been pointed to the output of Ash Sarkar and found, to my great confusion, that she wasn't being a complete idiot.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/06/2019 17:12

Sunset yes you're right I could have been specific.

OP posts:
SunsetBeetch · 24/06/2019 17:18

Well you were trying to hold onto your temper, DeRigueur Wink

It's confusing, innit, nauticant? But I find a lot of lib fems are like that: they 'get' certain things, but there doesn't seem to be a lot of joined-up thinking, unfortunately.

EweSurname · 24/06/2019 17:23

I thought her sarcasm highlighted why what JHb said was so shit.

DeRigueurMortis · 24/06/2019 17:25

Yes I was trying to hold my temper after the tweets from JHB....

I really should have referenced her in the title to be fair - I just read the response from Ash and that was in my head.
