I really enjoyed it. It really nailed down the problems, I thought.

I wonder if there aren't people there who don't like the editorial line, and feel that fiction is a way around that.

I recently met a reporter who works for the bbc who was very unhappy about the trans narrative and output at the bbc on all this.

What happened in the play?

That was quite good. It left the question of pre-puberty transition hanging though. Instead of 'is it, is it' the Ulster man could have pointed out the obvious problem of kids committing far too young to life changing surgery.

Well, I guess they couldn’t get everything into the one drama. And good that they raised it at least.

Just a bit disappointing they had a woman voicing the “transgirl” instead of a teenage boy/young man. Really took away from it, I thought, given that by 16/17 a juvenile male’s voice would already have dropped. Interesting that they made that choice.

I listened to this and thought, "wow, they must've been reading the MN Feminism boards!" Liked it a lot.

Yes I was also puzzled by the non dropped voice. Maybe they tried it with an actual boy but he sounded too obviously male. Can't dress up a voice.

Well yes. But that would have been so great, it would have made it so clear.

And I think it speaks volumes that even a piece like that, which didn’t hold back from putting across GC arguments, did hold back from that one bit of reality which would have been so informative.

Shows just how much people still feel compelled to cover up the truth even when trying to be even handed/get the facts across.

I hate that response so much. People simply HAVE o be playing dumb when they come out with it. FtMs have no advantage over males. And if they are on testosterone and stuff then they would be unable to compete with females as its cheating (though oddly, being male is not cheating ) so as usual, its not the same thing.

I really liked that they called out the actual transphobia too. Yes, exactly. Making sport as fair as you can = not transphobic. Being derogatory about transgirl = transphobic.

Mum was quite annoying as was "muuum he deadnamed me". A name you used to have isn't an insult! People who have changed their names on marriage get "deadnamed" all the time, I get called a name I never even had as I didn't. Correct them by all means but why such an almighty fuss.
