The pause to the GRA changes in Scotland have happened because women galvanised and created a grass roots movement.

Mumsnet is one of the very few places where women could share ideas, opinions and reflections on the loss of our rights.

So, thank you, Mumsnet. I know that the focus of this place is, ultimately, business - but, your business has helped a very good thing happen and I am hopeful that the ramifications of yesterday's events in Holyrood will lead to proper social change for women, whether they have the good sense to be on here or not.

There are amazing women here. I have learned so much and gained so much from a place where I was supposed to, apparently, talk about prams.

I actually bought something via clicking on a sidebar ad this week, Mumsnet!

I don’t think I’ve ever done that elsewhere.

Thanks for hosting this incredibly important discussion.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 21/06/2019 11:07

Yes, I'm grateful to Mumsnet too. Thanks Flowers

OhHolyJesus · 21/06/2019 11:15

Also grateful, would miss you all terribly if we couldn't have this space to talk.

ScrimshawTheSecond · 21/06/2019 11:20

Yes, thank you Mumsnet. Flowers

WomanDaresTo · 21/06/2019 11:26

Mumsnet is amazing - FWR gave rise to We Can't Consent To This and I name check MN in all the press we do here and here and here

Flowers to @MNHQ, I know this has carried a cost to you.

summerofresistance · 21/06/2019 11:53

Thank you Mumsnet Flowers

Democracy is healthier because of Mumsnet and FWR.

ItsAllGoingToBeFine · 21/06/2019 11:57

Yep, thanks MNHQ Flowers

This is genuinely the one place open to all where debate can properly happen

weebarra · 21/06/2019 11:58

Absolutely, thank you, and the women of FWR.
I'm Scottish and work for the public sector. This is one of the few places I can speak freely!

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/06/2019 12:02

Thanks.

RunningWild12 · 21/06/2019 12:07

Yes thank you. I never used Mumsnet before, I’m 53 with no children. Finding FWR and knowing there were other women thinking and feeling the same as me really helped when starting to raise this issue irl, and founding gc groups irl and online.

Very switched on women here too. Amazing how much knowledge, expertise, skills and humour so many women display here. And thanks for protecting the space as well as you can so debate can happen.
Any grief, just say the Scot govt welcomes debate on this issue!

LangCleg · 21/06/2019 12:08

FWR has given rise, or helped to give rise, to so much over the years. Let Toys Be Toys and Man Friday are another two that spring to mind.

Proud to be here.

DirtyDennis · 21/06/2019 12:14

Just wanted to added my thanks. I'm a non-senior academic. There is absolutely nowhere else for me to discuss things happening with GRA outside of MN.

I keep getting posts deleted for "making generalizations" 😓 Mumsnet is great but it could do better for women's voices

Chickenish · 21/06/2019 14:19

Which generalisations?

Juells · 21/06/2019 14:19

The hatred towards MN from MRAs and various other misogynists says all we need to know about the impact of FWR.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 21/06/2019 14:24

In this instance MN has done a great thing for women's voices. What a fantastic space.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 21/06/2019 14:26

The hatred towards MN from MRAs and various other misogynists says all we need to know about the impact of FWR

Agreed. They simply cannot stand it that women are saying no to them.

MenstruatorExtraordinaire · 21/06/2019 14:26

I love it here although I've had posts deleted which have stood on Twitter. A bit more freedom of speech on FWR would be appreciated.

OhHolyJesus · 21/06/2019 14:46

What Menstruator said. I appreciate it's difficult to moderate some discussions on here but I'm feeling cautious about posting at the moment as I won't use certain phrases. It's a fine line though, the pressure to abide by the rules applies to MNHQ as well as MNers I guess.

RubberTreePlant · 21/06/2019 14:52

Star @MNHQ

Yeahnahyeah · 21/06/2019 14:57

Yup xxx

Needmoresleep · 21/06/2019 14:58

Thank you...my guess is that as the tide starts turning and organisations start critically reviewing policies, things will, at least initially, get nastier.

And that MNHQ, along with academics, politicians and others will bear some of the brunt of this.
