Late to the party and only just watched this, so apologies if it has already been discussed.

But Russell T Davies’ treatment of “Transdigital” is surely a not particularly thinly veiled warning on the dangers of transgenderism. Quite surprised that a prominent gay man would go down that route.

I absolutely think it was a thinly veiled threat of teenagers being sucked into an ideology online and putting their bodies at terrible risk and damaged to the point of no return.

I found it interesting that there was a character transitioning quietly in the background though as if he felt he had to show some genuine dysphoria. Bit weird that it all seemed to stem from the son being dressed up as a girl for the 'take your daughter to work day' so that Edith could infiltrate that building. As if he thought it wasnt genuine?

I mean it might all be conjecture on my part, but thats what i thought I saw.

I thought RTD handled things pretty deftly. Lincoln was not referred to as trans, he still had his same name at the end, was just dressed/presenting in a stereotypically female way. As men should be free to do without pretending they are now women :-). Or, you could interpret that he transitioned as we understand it now, and it was unworthy of specific comment. Both TWAW-ers and gc fems all happy!

But yes the botched illegal digital upgrade surgery wasn’t even that veiled a comparison, I’m pretty sure the nurse at the hospital afterwards referred to ‘of course a few years it was all gender reassignment surgeries’ or similar.

I smiled at the first episode with the parents/teen daughter exchange
‘no I’m not transsexual’
‘We call it gender now sweetie

I loved the whole thing. Won’t post any spoilers. But watch it everyone, it’s awesome, it’s like Black Mirror crossed with RTD-era Doctor Who but without aliens and with scary this-could-really-happen? vibes.

I liked it too. Especially the ending, though people have criticised it.

It was spot on target and compulsive viewing.

There was a thread on this yesterday. I still think the casting of the teenage son in the dress was carefully staged, though I do think the transhuman/tech story was interesting and well done.
