Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Why are politicians pretending people can change sex?

I don't understand why our elected politicians are allowing Gender recognition Certificates to continue to be issued. Understand the reasons for introducing them when same sex marriage was illegal, but really there is no need for them now-unless you count men needing access to womens spaces a human right. They can see the mess this is creating-why are they allowing it to continue?

Because they hate us

Lemonmeringue33 · 19/06/2019 13:05

Because they prioritise the demands of a miniscule number of men over the rights of women.

Goosefoot · 19/06/2019 13:08

Because people think legal structures define what is true.

Prawnofthepatriarchy · 19/06/2019 13:11

I think it was sold to them behind the scenes as a human rights issue that affected a tiny number of immensely vulnerable people and an easy way to look modern and compassionate.

However the fact that none of them seem to have considered for an instant the likely effects on women and girls has made it very clear to so many of us how deep and pervasive misogyny is in the corridors of power.

Whatsnewpussyhat · 19/06/2019 13:11

Because they are gobshites and don't give a shit as it will never affect them.

terryleather · 19/06/2019 13:11

The GRA should be scrapped and no more GRCs issued - people can't change sex so I don't believe any official documents or records should be amended to allow an official lie to be recorded as the truth.

I think they will continue to be issued because stopping them will be seen to be the removal of rights which is political poison, unless you're shitting all over the sex based rights of women and girls as was the case in the first instance...

HumberElla · 19/06/2019 13:14

Laziness, lack of motivation to change, stretched resources expended on their other priorities, no negative impact likely for decision makers if they ignore it and the people who will suffer (women) are not listened to and are not a priority to any political party.

HumberElla · 19/06/2019 13:19

By removing GRC they would have to admit that it was homophobic to begin with. Basically they couldn’t bear the though of two people of the same sex having a relationship and getting married. So the only solution they could come up with was pretending one of them could magically change sex.

I seriously question the intelligence of anyone who goes along with the TWAW/TMAM ideology. I can't trust a single one of them with any other issue if they believe that. Just proving again what a bunch of liars they are.

placemats · 19/06/2019 13:30

After watching last nights travesty of a programme on the 'debate' for the next Prime Minister, I'm right in thinking that there is a poverty of intellect when it comes to MPs.

DerryWitch · 19/06/2019 13:40

Prawnofthepatriarchy you're totally right. I think that's also true for a lot of people who rock along with the TWAW mantra as well.

HumberElla · 19/06/2019 13:47

Poverty of intellect is right. Also continued lying, bickering and quoting subjective meaningless bollox to support major decisions. I spend quite a lot of time wondering how on earth some MPs managed to reach their positions. I’d last 5 minutes in my (ordinary) job if I worked in that way.

Bluerussian · 19/06/2019 13:48

They are pandering to the PC brigade. This will all come to a head and eventually everything will get back to normal.

Just to say I am sympathetic and sensitive to minority groups of any description but the fact is a male cannot become a female and vice versa.

RubberTreePlant · 19/06/2019 13:52

Misogyny, and pressure from a small group of aggressive campaigners.
