He was unhappy at having to pay more for his beer because he was male.

What a plum.

SemperIdem · 18/06/2019 21:59

I live in Cardiff, went to Brewdog once.

It is absolutely full to the brim of woke, officious little twat who love a bit of press.

They probably paid him to bring the claim.

AnyOldPrion · 18/06/2019 21:59

He wasn’t discriminated against on account of his sex anyway. If he was served once he told them he was a woman, then he was descriminated against on the grounds of his gender, so not a recognised protected category. What on earth was the judge thinking?

Caucho · 18/06/2019 22:59

I actually don’t think it’s fair to offer different prices but understand things such as nightclub entrance pricing differences to generate a better ‘balance’. Plus this was obviously a gimmick and not a permanent feature so was a bit of dick and just looked to be spoiling for a fight.

On the other hand he could be someone on here trying to make the absurd point that by simply identifying as a woman with his big fuck off beard he was given the drink. Probably not the intent but has done a good service in my opinion.

How many things are really priced differently by sex? He’s proven you can just self ID to get round it now though

Caucho · 18/06/2019 23:11

Also without trying to sound too instructive it would be useful if some of these type of threads were posted under the more general topics rather than feminism as this board has less viewers and has a bit of a rep for being a bunch of screaming terf types. These ridiculous stories need to be put into a more mainstream setting

LassOfFyvie · 18/06/2019 23:13

He's an idiot but I can't stand Brewdog.

scotsheather · 18/06/2019 23:21

He needs to go and look at the price of women's razors compared to men's and then cry me a river.

Er, I use the mens razors like many women as they're cheaper and better. Bigger mockery he could just 'identify' as female. I'd take some comfort if it even opened this mans eyes to the issue behind it.

RedToothBrush · 18/06/2019 23:30

I thought the judge said that even those he'd been served because he 'self identitied as a woman' he ruled sex discrimination had still taken place. Sex not gender.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 18/06/2019 23:51

I looked at tablets for period pains the other day

3/4 x the price of ‘normal’ painkillers but with exactly the same ingredients

And yes...people should check the ingredients, but they dont, and the only people being ripped off by this are females

barelove · 19/06/2019 00:08

[I] felt forced to lie about my sex in order to receive the product at the lower price and told the bartender that I identified as female

I don't know, I just liked seeing the words lie about my sex and identified as female in the same sentence. Nice bit of refreshing honesty Smile

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 19/06/2019 00:09

Yep

Good point bare

Harebel · 19/06/2019 00:37

I love this forum, the first few posters nailed it!

I'm not a fan of Brewdog despite their 'oh so try hard' credentials and 'look at me fake controversial' marketing campaigns.

This guy was a twat to labour the point when he could "self-identify" as female and he got the drink anyway. Shows you what a load of entitled bollocks (literally) that is!

I'd have grudged paying him out the 1000 pounds but similarly Brewdog as a company are insincere and their faux concern for a gender pay gap & jumping on a bandwagon related marketing just intensely irritates me.

Anyway, "Dr" of what I'd like to know... what a tool.

barelove · 19/06/2019 00:48

I'm thinking it's got merit though.

It raises the issue of how ridiculous (in this situation but actually dangerous in others) it is that any man can simply lie about my sex (his words) and identif(y) as female.

He's said that to identify as female he had to lie about his sex and that makes him a gc ally if you ask me!

ErrolTheDragon · 19/06/2019 00:52

Brewdog as a company are insincere and their faux concern for a gender pay gap & jumping on a bandwagon related marketing just intensely irritates me.

Yes... surely everyone knows it's not a 'gender' pay gap, it's a 'structural sexism' pay gap, affecting people who are female, not 'people who identify as female'.Hmm

ErrolTheDragon · 19/06/2019 01:03

Anyway, "Dr" of what I'd like to know... what a tool.

A brief google suggests there's someone of that name with a recent Engineering PhD in Cardiff. So probably a perfectly valid Dr ... makes the toolery worse tbh.

It was a shitty campaign.

He just exploited it.

ChickenNuggetsChipsAndBeans · 19/06/2019 08:47

This was reported on BBC R4 this morning at about 6.40 am. Not only did they fail to mention the word "sex" at any point, they, quoting the telegraph, described it as gender discrimination.

Under the equality act, there is no such thing as gender discrimination.

There are so many cases of women being treated unfairly that are being under reported. One example, that still makes me cross is the nurse marathon runner who didn't win a Guinness World Record because she was wearing the wrong type of nurses uniform.

Yet a man who has to buy a beer for £1 more than hsis female counterpart is news worthy.

deydododatdodontdeydo · 19/06/2019 08:53

What TheRedBarrows said.
Brewdog probably orchestrated this, or at least welcomed it.
The guy was making a perfectly valid point, but he fell into BD's trap.

Also, if you want to pay more for pink razors, go ahead and do it, but there are cheaper options easily available.

MrsToddsShortcut · 19/06/2019 20:22

What exactly was the compensation for? What losses did he incur by doing this?

ErrolTheDragon · 19/06/2019 20:54

What losses did he incur by doing this?

Dignity, I think.

MindTheMinotaur · 20/06/2019 07:49

Are the TRAs not all over this. How often have they said nobody would go through all the pain and issues of identifying as the opposite sex in order to fraudulently access benefits and spaces reserved for women?

MindTheMinotaur · 20/06/2019 07:51

'What losses'? The judge said it was humiliating for him to have to identify as a woman. Seems misogynistic and transphobic.
