Just reading about this now on Transgender Trend. Attendant wrote account immediately after attending last night. This is absolutely grim and links up a lot of stuff that's been covered here and on GC Twitter in the last week or two. Queer theory, porn, BDSM all linked into gender identity and the proponents think this is all suitable to discuss with children.

It's quite a graphic account, be warned.

I wouldn't be including the 'art work' of jenkin van zyl in primary art teaching nor even secondary.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/06/2019 13:23

Still a clip here

This is NOTHING to do with 'genders.'

Little brown dog's comment appropriate:

*Sometimes I find images stay in my head and keep replaying so try not to see
Imagine not being warned

Imagine how kids would feel

It’s vile what is happening and in plain sight*

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/06/2019 13:31

From an art POV It's all utter crap.

Look at Cindy Sherman if you want to explore gender.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/06/2019 13:35

Lol actually maybe not...

Review including commentary with the Curator. It sounds like a really interesting exhibition, but absolutely not for kids. Pornography, club culture, horror and sado-masochism are all mentioned in the article.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 15/06/2019 14:54

Oh apparently you "cruise across the space" rather than going round the exhibition. Nice touch. Lol.

I could see A level art teachers going? Maybe?
The youth take over should be 16 / 18 plus. What are they thinking?

This is for adults.

ColourMagic · 15/06/2019 16:09

The Hayward Gallery has a Facebook too, on which it is advertising the 'Kiss My Genders' exhibition. A few post could be helpful.

I thought I posted earlier WTAF is kink shaming ?

OldCrone · 15/06/2019 20:49

They've now changed some parts of the site to say that the exhibition 'may' not be suitable for children under 13.

Gendered ‘intelligence’ ran a teacher training course for primary and secondary school kids at the Hayward gallery yesterday, with the exhibition content deemed suitable as teaching materials (cough).

The exhibition has exhibits which are pornographic and fetishistic, it includes a huge photograph of a man jacking off, with his hand on his erect penis... there are videos of men in gimp outfits with metal implements sticking out of their anus.

Showing kids that material is termed: non contact child abuse.

Why were schools invited and encouraged to bring kids?

Singlesexlulu · 15/06/2019 22:13

If you live in London, please email your school heads to ask them to confirm that their staff have NOT attended the gendered intelligence training session and that they have no intention of exposing kids to extreme pornographic imagery on their next school trip..

My god who is this fucking country being run by...

Isn't the real problem that there doesn't seem to be any kkind of consensus on what is indecent? People are embarrassed no w about even talking about that idea. But while I don't think I'd restrict adults looking at art that is indecent if that idea doesn't exist there is something of a language or conceptual gap when we try and talk about what's appropriate for children.

It's also bad art. I think most of it is really just people who think producing this stuff makes them edgy and deep.

ALittleBitofVitriol · 16/06/2019 05:29

I totally agree. It's lazy mediocrity. You don't need to spend years building skill to take a dick pic and call it art ffs.

CircleofWillis · 16/06/2019 06:37

It is great that the Hayward gallery have rethought involvement for under 13 year olds. However, I hope someone has archived the previous recommendations from gendered intelligence to highlight their lack of due diligence and common sense.

littlbrowndog · 16/06/2019 06:50

I don’t even think that 13 is correct as agelimit.

From what I read on what the teacher saw when she was there that there wasn’t even warnings about what the video showed

And the teacher was shocked
Why should children be exposed to sexual stuff that adults find shocking
And why are people pushing this at children ?
And pretending it’s education

floraloctopus · 16/06/2019 07:23

I'm not one for emotion but I feel physically sick and, as a teacher, could cry at the thought of children being put through this shit.

KatvonHostileExtremist · 16/06/2019 08:02

I wonder where they've got the 13 years old from?
Thanks for the link showing they've changed their advice telling teachers they needed to visit first to see if it's suitable.

I hope they will also be insisting that the parents of the 13-15 year olds involved in the take over visit first too.

I just find it mind blowing. Kiss My Kink

KatvonHostileExtremist · 16/06/2019 08:07

My daughter's English teacher got bollocked for showing 14 1/2 year olds a 15 plus film.

Grin

But rules is rules.

I am dying to know the motivation behind primary school teachers attending that workshop.

MsTSwift · 16/06/2019 08:12

Think will stick to the royal academy summer exhibition for my 11 and 13 year old dds none of us particularly want to see men’s penises or randoms pervy kinks -which tbh are far less interesting than they think they are anyway.

hoodathunkit · 16/06/2019 08:15

Grooming? What grooming?

The TransBareAll (interesting name) project is closely linked to Gendered Intelligence

I have written before on mumsnet regarding the use of workshops, retreats and intensives where vulnerable people are groomed by cults using touch, eye-gazing and other similar activities to erode people's personal boundaries, cultivate emotional bonds between participants and to induce trance states in which people can experience undue influence

April 2016 Retreat: Disability Visibility

Like all TBA events, this retreat is rooted in the TBA principles of body positivity, sex and intimacy, and emotional wellbeing. The weekend will be predominately for trans people but we are welcoming cis (non trans) people, either allies or personal assistants. As we are a body positive organisation this means that we allow nudity, mainly in free time in the evenings. However, this does not mean you have to get naked and nobody will be put under pressure to do anything they do not want to do.

hiding in plain sight it seems

hoodathunkit · 16/06/2019 08:37

The above retreat Disability Visibility took place at a venue called Dukes Barn

I thought I would check it out as I imagine that it can be challenging for retreat organisers to find suitable venues where the owners are fine with participants walking around naked. It is not uncommon to find that the venues that host these kind of "nudity optional" events to also host swingers parties, neo-tantric sexual encounter groups and other dodgy new age sex cult related events.

Initial perusal of the Dukes Barn websites shows, to my surprise,

"Dukes Barn Outdoor Activity Centre provides adventurous activities for people of all ages and abilities. The Centre is situated in Beeley, which is one of the villages on the Chatsworth Estate, in the heart of the Peak District National Park in Derbyshire.

Our primary focus is children with special needs including Autism, Asperger's Syndrome, Downs Syndrome, children with hearing or sight impairment and those with physical disabilities including wheelchair users. We also in addition to our primary focus run courses for primary and secondary school children and those from disadvantaged backgrounds or poor inner city areas.

As an educational trust Dukes Barn provides a safe and adventurous environment in which people of all ages and abilities can experience the excitement of the outdoors. Children that attend a course at Dukes Barn will develop a greater awareness of self and the needs of others. Overcoming personal challenges and fears, children improve their physical fitness, confidence and self-esteem, equipping them to meet the challenges of everyday life and leaving with a wider appreciation of the natural environment.

All of our outdoor activities take place in Derbyshire, and are planned to ensure they are both challenging and adventurous, meeting the specific objectives and ability of the group. All specialist equipment needed for the activities will be provided whether you are attending a fully catered residential course or an individually planned day course exploring the Peak District or the nearby Chatsworth House Estate."

Wake up to radiance – one moment at a time Mindfulness Retreat on the Satipatthana Suttawith Vidyamala and Punyamala
Friday 7th September to Sunday 9th September
Venue: Dukes Barn in the Derbyshire Dales
Cost: £120/£95/£80 (Waged/Low-waged/Concessions) Booking Required

“I’ve recently been on a two week retreat co-led by Vidyamala and Saddhanandhi. Don’t miss doing a retreat with Vidyamala! She’s
so warm, bright, encouraging and clear in her communication of the Dharma. It just shines out of her. You will catch something! It is often said the greatest gift we can give is the gift of the Dharma, it leads to freedom! Don’t miss this opportunity.” Suryaka, Centre Manager
The Satipatthana Sutta from the Pali Canon is perhaps the most widely known and revered text on mindfulness in the Buddhist tradition. It is a brilliant text that offers practical and profound insight into human experience and explicit guidance on how to break free from reactive suffering.

Learn how to be as present as possible to actual moment-by- moment experience so you can choose how you respond to your experience. Gradually you’ll develop more spacious, kind and radiant states of mind as you become more aligned with the true nature of things.
Analayo – who has written an excellent commentary: Satipatthana - The Direct Path to Realisation sums the whole sutta up in four words which is brilliant:

KEEP CALMLY KNOWING CHANGE.
This weekend retreat will be co-led by Vidyamala and Punyamala (from the Sheffield sangha) and is open to women from the Northern region initially – opening it out to others if there are spaces nearer the time.
Vidyamala is a highly experienced practitioner and teacher of mindfulness and has led retreats internationally on this theme – both intensive meditation retreats within a Buddhist context, and retreats within the more ‘secular’ context of the Breathworks organization, which Vidyamala is the co-founder of (www.breathworks- mindfulness.co.uk). The Satipattana Sutta is close to her heart and she is delighted to have this opportunity to lead this retreat with her good friend Punyamala and share their inspiration and practice of it on this weekend retreat.
