Just reading about this now on Transgender Trend. Attendant wrote account immediately after attending last night. This is absolutely grim and links up a lot of stuff that's been covered here and on GC Twitter in the last week or two. Queer theory, porn, BDSM all linked into gender identity and the proponents think this is all suitable to discuss with children.

It's quite a graphic account, be warned.

Queer Theory ... and the avowed aim of Stonewall to 'smash heteronormativity' seems to be making headway here. Dismantling safeguarding, ignoring age appropriate rules, it's all very clear. Heard the BBC mention it earlier in the week, all very bouncy positive, but then the do have a positive discrimination practice around employing trans - currently at least 400 in the BBC. GI need to be kicked out of schools and a science based, compassionate advice around Gender dysphoria is desperately needed. Aren't Transgender Trend crowdfunding at the moment? Not a charity, BUT seems like some of them have fallen prey to queery theory anyway...NSPCC

Dr Em @ pankhurstEm
Hi @haywardgallery, could you explain to me how promoting and allowing children to view your recent exhibition 'Kiss My Genders' should not be considered a form of non-contact child sexual abuse? I shall explain why I think it might be in the next few tweets.

The NSPCC (while having its own issues with fetishes around children) does provide a definition of non-contact child sexual abuse. As it has statutory powers their definition of non-contact child sexual abuse does have a legal weight.

The NSPCC (while having its own issues with fetishes around children) does provide a definition of non-contact child sexual abuse. As it has statutory powers their definition of non-contact child sexual abuse does have a legal weight.

Your exhibit 'Kiss my Genders' includes celebration of a rubber fetish, an image of a fully erect penis, potential pornographic material, a symbolic gang rape.

You target this sexualised exhibition at children as young as 4 years old. Thus is it not non-contact-CSA?

Here is the promotional film for what the @haywardgallery has deemed acceptable for ages 4+ (h/t @sarahstuartxx) :

Oh. Well.

This is an interesting one...

This isn't going to play out well.

Excellent from Dr Em (as always.)

The trustees of the gallery might be interested in this. They might want to consider the reputational damage to the gallery of marketing this particular exhibition to children through their ticketing policy or the wisdom of using it in training with teachers. However, I cannot imagine any teacher in their right mind would actually organise a visit to this exhibition. It sounds like it would unleash a all manner of safeguarding complaints.

truthisarevolutionaryact · 15/06/2019 09:53

I'm going to complain to the Hayward about this.
It's also very concerning that a person who is mentoring a 9 year old child in a school is telling teachers that primary children should view this exhibition in order to 'have a discussion about gender issues'.

Slightly off topic but Gendered Intelligence is very keen on "mentoring" children in schools (presumably away from their parents) - at a charge of £90 an hour. They helpfully suggest that a school could use the Pupil Premium Grant, Disability Services Allowance or other Access funds to fund their fees plus travelling and accommodation.

Video says not available

However, I cannot imagine any teacher in their right mind would actually organise a visit to this exhibition.

Local schools are not rich and benefit greatly from extension activities offered by community outreach people in South Bank organisations. I would have thought that if something were offered by something that is a respectable nationally regarded arts organisation, they would rely on them to have determined the suitability. Especially now when we are reaching the fag end of the summer term.

The video was there about 30 minutes ago ... seems to have been taken down now.

Their website states that all of their mentors are trans-identified and have professional skills working with young people. I am a little surprised it is not mention a valid DBS...

How odd, given that it was suitable for age 4+...

HandsOffMyRights · 15/06/2019 10:02

Good to see a thread on AIBU met with similar concerns.

If anyone happens to be passing the gallery please feel free to share our views.

Melroses · 15/06/2019 10:04

Funny they have taken it down - there was only one comment and that person really liked it...…….

noblegiraffe · 15/06/2019 10:17

A teacher training event was encouraging teachers to bring students on a school trip to a sex exhibition? Confused

Look at how it kicks off on here if KS3 kids are shown a 15 rated film.

NeurotrashWarrior · 15/06/2019 10:37

I forgot I'd bought this book a few weeks ago.

I found it hilarious at the time; I still do but it's much darker humour now...

A lot of inappropriate shit gets public viewing in the name of art.

Follow activist Barbie on twitter, though she's mainly concerned with sexism and misogyny. She has commented on how rape scenes are merrily portrayed in most galleries.

The combination of those too statements does lead you to expect pictures of masturbation...

Their website states that all of their mentors are trans-identified and have professional skills working with young people. I am a little surprised it is not mention a valid DBS.

I'm curious what they mean by "professional skills working with young people" The GI site says that the employee who mentored the 9 year old child has been a youth worker since 2010. However that persons Linkedin profile does not mention any childcare qualifications or list any previous work with children unless doing A levels in a sixth form in 2010 counts as doing youth work?

Datun · 15/06/2019 11:20

@RedToothBrush

What was on that video? Whatever it was, it has since been deemed something that must not be seen.

MimbleCat · 15/06/2019 11:24

They are offering FREE entrance to PRIMARY school groups!!!

This is not a space which is safe for children.
Its a space which has been constructed by adults expressing their ideology, kink & which has images which are unsuitable for the age group.

Those promoting it do not understand or respect Safeguarding frameworks.

I'd recommend that you don't search YouTube for "Looners"...
