I can't even c'n'p the good bits because it'd be the whole thing!

Agree

Needmoresleep · 14/06/2019 11:28

Woah!

Kirkup is so good at getting to the heart of an issue.

You can register for free and get a small number of articles each month. Do it for this one, if only to restore your faith in journalism.

Gasp0deTheW0nderD0g · 14/06/2019 11:29

Brilliant, James. Thank you.

Kinsters · 14/06/2019 11:39

I know the answer to the final question! I shan't write it here though as I'm sure the post would be deleted.

Needmoresleep · 14/06/2019 11:41

The useful thing about Kirkup is that his primary interest is the democratic process, including free speech, organisational accountability and journalistic freedom. GRA reform is an example of where the process fails. So he gives Janice Turner full credit for asking the right questions. He then highlights the completely inappropriate response, including from the Guardian, Independent and BBC.

A lot of people read him, OK often men, in a way that they would not read an article about the toxic mess that GRA reform has become.

happydappy2 · 14/06/2019 11:53

Brilliantly written. Highlights the very real problems of elevating trans people above the high level of scrutiny others face.

Enough is enough, trans women are different beings than women. All have human rights though.

MrsGface · 14/06/2019 12:00

Fuck me, that final question is jaw dropping. What is the difference indeed.

DuMondeB · 14/06/2019 12:07

The end is a really powerful bit of writing.

Hope Little Owen Jones reads it.

AlwaysTawnyOwl · 14/06/2019 12:09

Fantastic article. The BBC is meant to be independent so this clear bias is appalling and terrible journalism. Janice Turner is a brave lady who dares to speak the truth.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 14/06/2019 12:15

Great article. The answer to the question: Janice is an adult human female.

JessicaWakefieldSV · 14/06/2019 12:16

I do wonder if Janice can pursue things legally with a couple of those defaming phrases about her. They shouldn’t get away with it.

SmallHaddockAndChips · 14/06/2019 12:23

Answer = male privilege

Joisanofthedales · 14/06/2019 12:24

Great and truthful article. Flowers for Janice Flowers

StroppyWoman · 14/06/2019 12:36

Janice is amazing to keep going in the face of the abuse she gets. Kirkup is one of the few to recognise it.

OrchidInTheSun · 14/06/2019 12:42

👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼 brilliant as ever James.

The bloody bbc is a shocking partisan organisation that in no way is meeting its statutory obligations to be impartial.

I hope Janice sues the arse off the Independent

Popchyk · 14/06/2019 12:46

"Question: what are the differences between Munroe Bergdorf and Janice Turner that might explain the different ways in which they have been treated?"

Yes. Quite.

thatdamnwoman · 14/06/2019 13:12

Excellent calm, rational, thorough article. Simple points, straightforward, unarguable. Good stuff.

When are we going to see Stonewall, Maria Miller, Penny Mordaunt, Owen Jones, Mermaids and all the other organisations and individuals who have acted in bad faith held to account?

JackyHolyoake · 14/06/2019 13:16

Excellent analysis by James Kirkup!

It will also be interesting to see if he gets any abuse from the usual suspects for writing that article.

[Hint: of course he won't!]

Needmoresleep · 14/06/2019 13:19

Assuming I got the answer to the last question correct, Kirkup knows exactly why Janice gets the abuse and he does not. (And he does not think this is acceptable.)

TheAngryLlama · 14/06/2019 13:24

Superb. I have so many issues with the speccie but I’ll keep buying it as long as kirkup’s on board.

Mumfun · 14/06/2019 13:30

Brilliant article. Final question is devastating.

And yes restores my faith in journalism too.

The BBC and Guardian totally exposed to be propaganda machines - truly totalitarian in their approach.

CadburysTastesVileNow · 14/06/2019 14:24

God but he's good.

Popchyk · 14/06/2019 14:56

Simon Fanshawe (co-founder of Stonewall) on Twitter.

"Thanks James - a clear and factual appraisal of this sorry tale".

Simon Fanshawe has been consistently decent and measured throughout this whole circus.

toomanyleavesonthattree · 14/06/2019 15:14

Insightful, evidence based journalism, showing an inquiring mind and critical thinking.

He's very good at his job.

BorisBadunov · 14/06/2019 15:20

Very good read, thank you. I felt very let down at the poor quality of reporting by the BBC. I’m glad it’s not just me.

JT is a very courageous woman. That’s why I keep my subscription to the Times.
