I saw the she's doing a TEDx talk today. I know she's a feminist and does a lot of work and campaigning for women's rights.

Sorry if this has been covered here before but is she GC? If she is she seems to have kept quiet about it. She is looking at very genuine issues that affect females across the world so it would make sense surely?

Oh God I hope she is GC.
I still remember buying.... I think it was Eurythmics?... in the 80s.Sweet dreams are made of this. Love her.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 14/06/2019 09:23

I bloody hope so! That's be an absolute shock to the system if she was not!

I almost dare not look...

Bluestitch · 14/06/2019 10:27

I don't think she's GC. She's given an interview before about how feminism needs to be more 'inclusive'.

Mmm! That might be what many of us thought a few years ago. Great , nobody needs hide who they are. Feminism can be inclusive and lovely!

It will be intersting to see if she became more woke or GC in the last 3 / 4 years Grin

It would need to be a very brave woman to stand up publicly and speak out against the Emperor's Trans Clothes.

I know I'm not brave enough (yet) so I wouldn't expect it of another woman either.

I hope she is though - even if it's only privately.

Auldspinster · 14/06/2019 13:30

Whenever I see her name I think of A kneeling Ox on Adam and Joe.

GrimDamnFanjo · 14/06/2019 14:00

As someone who actively rejected gender stereotyping in the 80s I'd be so disappointed if she's drunk the koolaid.

DpWm · 14/06/2019 14:13

Don't forget she's a wealthy white celebrity.... which seems to be a class of people quite susceptible to the Kool Aid.

Alison Moyet and Navratilova had their progressive eyes opened by twitter transactivists - I’m convinced most women will too - eventually

Beebeequeue · 14/06/2019 14:47

Op did you mean you saw the news today or that this is happening today? I’d like to listen :)

Beebeequeue · 14/06/2019 14:48

In the meantime I’ve just popped a bit of Alison Moyet on Smile

Doyoumind · 14/06/2019 16:08

I saw something on Twitter beebee.

Looking at the tweets about the event now, I'm none the wiser. I certainly don't think she's ever going to come out talking about it. It would likely damage her work.

To be fair, in the scheme of things, when she's talking about global issues, what is going on with trans issues and women's rights here is small fry.

It is today at TEDxGlasgow

Ends in about 40 minutes

It's a pfrom yesterday, introducing her TedxTalk. nice quote: “Feminism is not a club that you join – that you pay into. It’s an actual ethical and qualitative attitude and value towards the world,”

And only one trans word = transform used as it should be. She doesn't mention transwomen, she just says women and girls, a lot!

So she may well get some heat for this...

Doyoumind · 14/06/2019 16:35

I can't see her getting any heat for not mentioning trans women. Based on the stuff she's talking about, they would get a pile on for making it about them. Anyway, they include themselves in 'women and girls'.

We shall see, at some point, I imagine! Who knows how the TRAs will see it, if they even notice it!

Datun · 14/06/2019 17:22

I'm sure lots of people think it's not a problem. That transwomen will just come along for the ride and the more the better.

They don't see them as men and they don't see them as anyone who is seeking conflicting rights.

As soon as they do, everything changes, of course.

But they have to see it first.

Talking about women and girls will generally get the ball rolling.
