Kalvin Garrah - Trans YouTuber

Not sure if anyone else knows who Kalvin is. Found out about him through 17 year old DD. He's an 18 year old transman who makes YouTube videos mostly reacting to "transtrenders" and "SJWs". He refers to himself as a transsexual and uses the term "transmed" (i.e believing dysphoria is required to be trans).

He's repeatedly been verbally abused / piled on for his opinions, both on Twitter and in YouTube comments (and in videos people have made about him).

He acknowledges ROGD, though not exactly the same way as GC feminists do. He is very outspoken about the fact that dysphoria is a mental illness / medical condition and should be treated as such.

Similar YouTubers include Storm Ryan, Sam Collins, Miss London and Blaire White - all have an audience comprised of mostly young people who share their viewpoints.

Although they don't share all of the same opinions as GC feminists, I think that maybe it's a good thing that teenagers are exposed to more of this content - it shows not all trans people agree with the current narrative.

I'm pretty GC, whereas DD is more aligned with the viewpoints of those like Kalvin - which is okay by me, far better than other things she could have been swallowed up by. She's as GNC as they come and I'm quite glad she found these people rather than the likes of Ash Hardell, Chase Ross etc.

I've linked some of Kalvin's videos if anyone wants to take a look. There's a bit of swearing in them and general teenage behaviour but he seems articulate and self-aware. I don't agree with everything he says but it's always interesting to see another perspective.

Honestly.... Kalvin is yet another trendy trans influencer. They look very cool and everything and it's so very extremely cool to take T and have your voice drop even though your a 17 year girl, and much of their audience will be very inspired to follow on to that path themselves as there's no space anymore for being just a gnc girl.
There are hundreds of "Kalvins" now.

So a 17 year old who is already taking life-altering drugs, irreversible?

Heartbreaking.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/06/2019 06:35

A child who is mutilating their body? No thanks

InsulatedCup · 13/06/2019 07:13

Every single trans teenager will swear blind that their "trans ness" is real, their gender dysohoria is deep and distressing, and will have all the symptoms. You tubers, however well intentioned, are coaching others.

And yes, 17, on testosterone, no breasts - and looking forward to getting a penis. Great.

NotTerfNorCis · 13/06/2019 07:25

I thought Kalvin was alright. Kalvin is adamant that gender dysphoria is a distressing mental illness and that the majority of people claiming to be trans, especially the non-binary and genderfluid types, are doing it for attention.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/06/2019 08:03

And how many teenage girls will watch Kalvin and convince themselves that they too are the real deal because they are distressed by their growing breasts and the unwelcome attention they get from men?

There is no such thing as true trans. They are children who are mutilating their bodies to escape from teenage discomfort.

By the time they look back and desist (as 80% do), it will be too late.

So no, I don't think Kalvin is alright. I think she's dangerous.

All these YouTubers are influencing and coaching younger kids. The most worrying trend I have noticed in the last few weeks, although not from Kalvin, is how these brave and stunning YP are now promoting every kink and fetish imaginable as part of the ideology. As an example see Ash Hardells latest video on threesomes, foursomes and moresomes.

I was at primary school when my breasts started developing, and absolutely hated it. I don’t think I’d have enjoyed it much at an older age, and although I’ve always been pretty sensible who knows what stupidity I might have fallen for if enough people were doing it?

After all, the crap tattoo I got at 18 was definitely something I’d never regret....

I agree these people are just as dangerous for young teens.

"I'm more trans than you, I'm more dysphoric than you and I'm most definitely not doing anything for more attention that's why I set up my own YouTube Channel"

I remember Blaire White talking about how the transmed people got accused of being TTTs (trannier than thou). I actually quite like Blaire a lot of the time, they talk a lot of sense and have a healthy grip on reality (they also have views I strongly oppose btw) and I think it's good for that message to be part of "the trans community tm". But I've also read detrans stories of teens who made the move from NB to FtM because their parents/ peers accused them of being "trenders" and they wanted to prove that they were "true trans". So it's hard because on the one hand I agree that if being "true trans" means anything at all, it means having dysphoria/ wanting to transition, but on the other hand, for the safety of these kids, I would like to see "being trans" divorced completely from any^ medical intervention. The idea of people taking CSS or having surgery because of peer pressure to prove they're trans is terrible.

I feel the same about any argument that centres around "you shouldn't do X if you have a penis". So, "nobody with a penis in women's prisons/ shelters" is the wrong message for me, because if those people are unsafe in men's prisons/ shelters, then their safety shouldn't be made contingent on serious irreversible surgery. That's why a third spaces is needed, so then we can say "No men full stop in women's spaces" without leaving those people in a) danger or b) a position of being pressured into surgery. Also men shouldn't be allowed in women's sports on the condition of taking testosterone or not having gone through male puberty (as will be true for the next generation of TW) because that just puts pressure on people (esp young people) to take those drugs. It should just be a blanket ban under any circumstances, and a separate category for people who don't want to compete as/with their own sex class.

DuMondeB · 13/06/2019 12:26

I agree, Grabthars

One good thing about the transmedicalist/truscum youtubers is that they largely have a decent handle on why Male bodies don’t belong in women’s sport. Blaire recently posted on this topic, as did Rose of Dawn, and they both left me thinking ‘well, thank fuck for YOU’.

I've also seen bullying and denial of others' experiences.

Same dynamic illustrated by some adult TS who want to draw a line between those who are transexual & those who are transgender where there really isn't one.
