boundingintocomics.com/2019/06/10/chelsea-cain-deletes-twitter-account-following-accusations-of-transphobia-regarding-latest-issue-of-man-eaters/

Horribly reminiscent of what happened to Alison Moyet.

Ridiculous responses to the comic... what is wrong with these people?

She should have turned off her phone for a while, I think she panicked under the torrent of abuse (understandably).

Why take all these angry anime avatars so seriously though? Do they represent a large portion of her market or what? Women need to stand up to these bullies so that girls know it’s okay to say NO.

NeutralJanet · 12/06/2019 17:45

Of course women can't have a story based on an experience shared by the vast majority of us from puberty onwards without giant adult babies screeching "What about MEEEEE!" Shameful behaviour. And yet, John Boyne was criticised because he wrote about a transgender character without having that experience himself, so what do they actually want, representation in fiction or not?

Gingerkittykat · 12/06/2019 18:00

Is there any way to contact her to express support or has she had to totally take herself off social media?

NotTerfNorCis · 12/06/2019 19:04

some believed associating the monstrous change in women with a biological menstrual cycle excluded persons who were not biologically female but identified as such.

Fuck. Right. Off.

I wish I could say that to their faces.

Signposting Chelsea to #TeamNavratilova. Tell the men to get on their bikes. Solidarity Chelsea. Star

VortexofBloggery · 12/06/2019 19:59

Also: why pay someone to mansplain a period? Heaps of free advice on reddit, some with photos. It does make sense that a man would end up being financially rewarded for a woman's suffering. Angry

Cocolapew · 12/06/2019 20:10

She doesn't seem to be on Instagram anymore either.

More people are seeing the TRAs for what they are.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/06/2019 20:41

More people are seeing the TRAs for what they are. Once it gets out of the woke Twitter mono-culture the reaction is very different.

whatsthecomingoverthehill · 12/06/2019 20:48

More people are seeing the TRAs for what they are. Once it gets out of the woke Twitter mono culture it almost universally

ByGrabtharsHammarWhatASaving · 12/06/2019 20:48

people follow because of fear.

Anyone who thinks they should be more afraid of the people putting my children in danger, than they should be of me, is in for a rude fucking awakening.

SonicVersusGynaephobia · 12/06/2019 20:50

I feel so sorry for her, shame she's deleted her account so I can't go and support her.
TRAs don't want anything uniquely-female to be discussed, ever, do they.

Ginandsonic · 12/06/2019 20:59

I am a fan of comics and I just found my next purchase

MrsDoylesTeaBags · 12/06/2019 21:20

The BTL comments were promising, particularly this one;

Her first mistake was trying to rationalize with some of these people. All she should have said, "This is the story I want to tell, from my own experiences growing up, I'm sorry if some people feel excluded, that's on you, not me, go write your own stories". Never mind that we're constantly told that only a writer from XYZ group can write stories about XYZ people, so she'd have gotten crap for that too. There is no pleasing some of these folks.

CrazyToast · 12/06/2019 21:30

I've bought it in solidarity. You can email Chelsea's agent at [email protected]. I'm going to.

citykat · 12/06/2019 22:13

I have bought it too. I cannot believe some of the stuff I read on here. I hope Chelsea gets to sell more comics as a result of this bonkers nonsense.

I totally love this. I want it on a t-shirt (might be a bit too long though)

bythewayok · 13/06/2019 00:24

It's an incredible comic. I have read it since it started and it was very nice to have a bit of something not sullied by anger

RiotAndAlarum · 13/06/2019 06:28

I've bought a bundle of three. No samples, no trying out. This bullying is unreasoning and despicable.

OrchidInTheSun · 13/06/2019 06:31

There is no point in apologising and appeasing. Nothing will ever be enough.

TeaForDad · 13/06/2019 06:35

Jesus christ.

No one can do anything.

Seeing the transition into grovelling apology was painful

2BthatUnnoticed · 13/06/2019 06:41

Agree - watching the transition to complete capitulation was hard. But even that wasn’t enough. People now accusing her of deleting Twitter as a “manipulative” move designed to make others attack trans people... she should have stood strong in the first place.

Solidarity Chelsea Flowers Totally agree that girls shouldn’t feel shame or embarrassment about their periods, good on you for trying to address this:

jay55 · 13/06/2019 06:43

It is not transphobic for women to bitch about periods.
This is the same shit mumsnet gets for existing.
MRAs wanting women to shut up and stop existing.

Ineedacupofteadesperately · 13/06/2019 14:27

It enrages me so much when this happens. Half the population have periods at some point in their lives and we can't identify out of it. It's about time all men, however they identify just understand this basic biological fact. Their mothers will have menstruated.

Also it's quite transphobic to ask for discussion about periods to be stopped since transmen menstruate too, of course. So it's not transphobic, as it will be inclusive of transmen.
