We've are really pleased to announce that our new newsletter / contact system is up and running! We'd really appreciate help in spreading the word to as many Scotland based supporters as we can - female and male - and getting them to sign up as soon as possible.

We're looking to share some really important updates via this system on activism and policy. We'd also like to use it to coordinate local groups, facilitate meetings and possibly get an allies group off the ground.

There's some really important stuff happening in Scotland in coming weeks, so we want to share info very soon. It would be great if people could register and spread the word.

Thanks!

Susan, I was just wondering, and it might sound like a daft question but do you need to be in Scotland to register? Obviously, you’ll want the majority to be based here but I just thought, we women are a dedicated bunch and it might be that some folk in the north of England might want to travel up to show support at times. Or are they better just monitoring your Twitter page?

(Was a good excuse to bump the thread, too!) Smile

SusanSmithFWS · 12/06/2019 08:50

Hi, Afro, there is an option for those who aren't in Scotland to register. It's a fair point about activism and meetings.

Obviously, we only want people resident here to contact MSPs which is why the region drop-down list correlates to Parliamentary regions (we are aware that other orgs have been less scrupulous in recent campaigns!).

We have been contacted by people who have family - especially elderly relatives - in Scotland on whose behalf they sometimes have to act, in such cases, they might wish to use the appropriate region to ensure that they get the correct info for their relatives.

You’ve thought of everything Smile. I didn’t notice the other option in the location field. I hope the sign up is going well; you deserve all the support we can give you Flowers

Thought this deserved a bump after today's news that the Scottish Government intends to press ahead with self-ID. Spread the word.

I've signed up as "Not Living in Scotland" because I am a huge admirer of the work of Susan Smith, in the name of our Scottish sisters: For Women Scotland.

Thank you Susan Smith.

howonearthdidwegethere · 14/06/2019 22:42

Thanks, Jacky.

Solidarity across borders is what we need. Because it doesn't matter where in the UK self-ID becomes law, it'll impact everywhere.

For that reason, I responded to both the Scottish and the UK Government consultations.

thethethethethe · 14/06/2019 22:51

This is what's already happening in Scottish schools:

howonearthdidwegethere · 17/06/2019 16:25

Bumping again because I signed up and FWS sent out their first - very useful! - newsletter yesterday. Definitely worth doing.

Looks like they have a leaflet that people can bulk order in order to distribute themselves.

Might not be a bad idea given rumour has it the government up here plans to announce its intention to proceed with self-ID next week.

Doesn't seem to be much interest among Scottish mumsnetters.

BetsyM00 · 17/06/2019 20:32

Oh, I think you'd be surprised what goes on!

Have signed up and written to MSPs

ScottishDoll · 20/06/2019 17:37

BUMP!

Cismyfatarse1 · 20/06/2019 18:36

And the amazing group, amongst others, has forced the Scottish Government to listen. Worth signing up!

thethethethethe · 20/06/2019 19:00

Why is the legislation still going ahead? How has the Scottish government responded to your concerns?

Cismyfatarse1 · 21/06/2019 07:30

They haven't caved but they are at least prepared to listen. It is a huge step as our polite requests have been heard over the screams of transphobia.

Daughterofmabel · 21/06/2019 08:36

Bumping after yesterdays events.
