Feminism: Sex and gender discussions

Left wing men hate women as much as right wing men

Is anyone else getting more and more upset by left wing men and their misogony? I have been following Ron Johnsons recent comments about the porn industry and prostitution and I want to cry. I thought he was one of the good guys. He's just posted today about educating himself about prostitution - by speaking with.....you guessed it the pimp lobby!

Was it Dwokin who said:
Right wing men view women as private property left wing men view women as public property.

Every day I feel like I see more and more evidence for this.

This is compunded by the fact that i was disinvited from a panel discussion at an anti-fa festival because I told them I wanted to discuss the violence directed against women from left wing activists.

Actually recorded a podcast about it you can listen here:

makemorenoise.libsyn.com/suffragette-city-radio-six

Left wing men only care about women's issues as a stick to beat the right with. If you dare to challenge their own behaviour suddenly you are a feminazi and a t*rf.

What do you guys think? What's been your personal experience with men on the left?

I don't think YABU.

I wish I had never woken up to the level of misogyny. It's another of those things you can't unsee once it's become apparent.

I torment myself by reading the responses on Twitter to news stories etc about women. I know most of them will be MRAs, incels but it's depressing to see the hatred.

ZuttZeVootEeeVro · 09/06/2019 21:57

I'd love to hear Ron Swanson take on all of this.

Men tend to redefine misogyny and feminism so that they can call themselves feminist and not misogynists regardless of what the do, think and say.

Yes. I’m still waiting for someone somewhere in politics to pull it out of the fire for women and children. I’m a life long red but not at the moment. I can’t see any organised fight back. It feels so strange to have no political home. But I think now the more I read about this I’ve been duped, and I never had one anyway. I was just on the outside of the rabbit hole. I imagine there are lots of quiet private conversations amongst M.P.s who are GC. And to be honest I think no public is in the majority. But this is occupation by stealth. We need this to get more and more public and for M.P.’s to make some noise.

Sorry - jo public

This is basically why I don't care if men hate feminism or think it's unkind/misandry/gone too far blah blah blah. They will never truly support the dismantling of a system that benefits them. They might let you play pretend at progress if you're lib fem enough about it, but if anything lib fems do every gets close to true structural change their male "allies" will turn on them overnight. Being a male feminist (especially for celebs/ politicians) is like having a rainbow in your twitter bio or wearing a poppy once a year. If making token eco gestures is "green washing" and making everything rainbow themed for pride month is "pink washing" then being a male "feminist" is I-don't-know-what washing. Fem-washing? The popularity of liberal feminism amongst men and the hatred for radical feminism was my first and brightest clue that radical feminism was the one that might actually be effective! I have no interest in educating men on women's rights or trying to win their heart and minds - if they really cared we'd have true equality already. Men have all the power, all the leverage, all the money - the only reason they aren't using it to truly liberate women is because they don't want to. That's why I wish everyone would stop wasting their time arguing with woke beards on Twitter. Men don't care, they don't see us. Literally - people have been joking that men can't tell if their wife got a hair cut for years, but nowadays lots of men can't even see the difference between women, blow up dolls, sex robots, men with prosthetic breasts, and who the fuck knows what else. I'm not interested in trying to convince men, just women. They're the ones who need to wake up and break free (on this, but also in general).

To those of you who are going to waste an hour arguing with men on Twitter tonight, please take that energy over to the relationships board instead where I guarantee some poor woman needs to hear that yes, it was "real rape", no, it wan't "just a push", of course he should be paying his share, and here's a link to the Freedom Program. Let the woke beards waste their own time.

M.P.’s to make some noise.

You'll be waiting forever if you expect them to care en masse, they won't care and they never have.
The public are slowly realising they don't have to follow, and they can make noise, it's happening far to slowly, but it's happening.

Mrscaindingle · 09/06/2019 22:55

Some MP's are making noise though, Joan McAlpine, Joanna Cherry, Jess Phillips off the top of my head. We do need more to be brave though.

feelingverylazytoday · 10/06/2019 16:30

I think they hate us more, to be honest. I'm sure it's no coincidence that there still hasn't been a female leader of the labour party.

FlapsMagazine · 10/06/2019 17:19

Came across a young woman once who had just joined the SWP. she said that they automatically assumed she'd make the tea and stuff at meetings

Had a friend who used to volunteer with the Irish Green Party, said EXACTLY the same thing.

CaptainKirksSpookyghost · 10/06/2019 18:48

Same wood different veneer.

ukgift2016 · 10/06/2019 18:54

THIS.

If men were being abused/raped/less pay etc at the rate women were, it be an national epidemic. As it's women, it's just a meh reaction.

As I got older I realise nothing is going to change. If anything we are going backwards.

RosaWaiting · 10/06/2019 19:01

I'm very confused what's happened here

last time I saw his account a couple of days ago, he was saying that he'd been making statements about porn and wasn't advocating it

now his account has been locked - but he has had issues in the past with fake accounts in his name.

so what's going on? it is very disappointing if he turns out to be a misogynist as well.

caringdenise009 · 10/06/2019 19:24

I listened to Jon Ronsons Last days in August podcast, about the death of a pornstar, and I felt it explored porn responsibly. He allowed the women in porno a voice, and their voices initially said it was all A OK and a choice of career.... then revealed the events that led to those choices and laid the blame at the feet of abusive men.

Goosefoot · 10/06/2019 20:54

I don't disagree, but I would say the same thing from a different angle, which is I think that assholes and non-assholes inhabit the right and left in about equal numbers.

donquixotedelamancha · 10/06/2019 21:08

I'd love to hear Ron Swanson take on all of this.

“I don’t consider myself an anything ’ist, but my life has been shaped by powerful women. My father once told my mother woman was made form the rib of Adam and my mom broke his jaw.”

“My Uncle Lon once tried to open a door for my mom and she burned down his ice house. No small feat if you think about it.”

CumannNamBan · 10/06/2019 23:59

This is a thread on what Jon Ronson was saying recently. twitter.com/sarahstuartxx/status/1137136862139731969?s=19

And this is a very disturbing thread on porn with a little on Jon twitter.com/SuzzanBlac/status/1137718569427447809?s=19

LightDrizzle · 11/06/2019 00:07

Many men on the liberal left assume they are always "on the right side of history" whatever they do. They don't need to really analyse or look at themselves, or become conscious of their own attitudes and expectations.
