While I think a lot of the tools Tony Robbins uses for personal development are great I don’t think his attitude to women is (try a quick google and check recent news coverage if you want to know more).

Saw he was championing a ‘Wonder Woman’ and did a double take as I was genuinely surprised.

Interesting to look at the link between those who believe in a feminine/masculine ‘essence’ and level of embracing of the idea that man/woman is in your head not your body. Yet somehow the big players they defer to, respect, play with were born into a male body.

A lot of money, power and influence sitting down at the table in that two person interview, too.

I have very mixed feelings about him but I do love this clip about marriage. I wish more men would view it.

I've been suspicious about his approach in those big cult-like sessions he runs for people around changing their lives and the possible impact on trauma victims. Though he had a pretty crappy upbringing himself.

But yeah, wonder "woman", hmm.

Yes I have mixed feelings about TR. I have a lot of respect for his message about owning what you can do and not sitting in the victim space.

I think there's a difference between being "in the victim space" because of negative thinking when things are not that bad, and being there because you've been so traumatised that your neural pathways have developed in response to being persistently abused - you can't change that easily or quickly as it's built into the emotional not cognitive bits of your brain. You end up with more victim-blaming on the basis that you could change it if you wanted to, making people feel even worse about themselves, but physiologically it just doesn't work like that.

Yes Everard I know what you are saying. I think there is a balance to be struck somewhere.

I loathe that man. He’s a bully and a misogynistic narcissist. The recent footage of him bullying a woman who stood up and questioned him said it all. He’s a great supporter of pyramid schemes and cult like organisation and runs one himself. His brand of ‘self development’ is victim blaming nonsense, delivered in cliches and soundbites. If someone is vulnerable he’s just the sort of person to keep right away from. BTW I work in MH and specifically with trauma which is why I feel so strongly about him and his type. Can you tell I’m not keen?!

Agree Everard, haven’t seen any discussion yet.

He has quite active lawyers and is apparently suing Buzzfeed so maybe that’s why.

He is a master sales man and a con man

His personal growth psychology theories has been debunked people don’t make changes to their core personality traits after a weekend

He uses sound bites that sound positive, sensible, reasonable blah blah (anyone can come out with such quotes) and sales them to you in a way that makes you feel wow that right I can/I do/I shall

And have you seen how he operates humiliating people until they see the wrong in their ways

Thankfully not involved in politics

What is interesting how people like him are able to have such an influence on people how devoted they become while handing over huge amounts of money
